this is still the closest thing we've done to using AI at our studio

Nobody at Turbo Button could figure out how to make an AI-generated greeting card. But we heard studios like us are expected to use AI for everything now, so we commissioned some of our favorite artists to hand draw what they think those cards might have looked like.

Here's what they came up with.

Tons of stuff broke from 2019 to 2021 and then again from 2021 to 2022. We published on 7 different platforms with massively different specs, and it was a *huge* pain, I can empathize!

We have gotten good at controlling it over the years with VR, where hitches meant a cert fail from the platforms. It's a huge pain in the ass to deal with, but it's possible!

(and you're not wrong about the GC or other things that make Unity uniquely slow - it's less about Unity getting faster and more about everything else getting slower)

Dunno how recently you've looked, but Unity is significantly more performant than Unreal 5 or other off-the-shelf engine solutions for the majority of use cases now. We evaluated UE5 and Godot and had to stick with Unity because of performance.

My best guess is that the brightness contrast in VR created an effect similar to when everything looks like it's slowly moving down after playing Rock Band / Guitar Hero too long, and your eyes are just taking time to de-adjust from it?

Our industry does have peer-voted awards, the most visible being DICE, Game Developers Choice Awards, BAFTA. There are scores of smaller developer-led awards too. We do have spaces to celebrate and uplift one another, please support and watch these shows! The teams work hard for the devs!

This is great! Just a little hard to see the Extra Points logo, though :)
