A little morning treat: Rosalind Franklin’s and R. G. Gosling’s confirmation of Watson and Crick’s DNA model. A part of Arne Engström’s collection. Engström was a key player in the Nobel assembly, held the Nobel speech to Watson and Crick, and was, as we can see, aware of Franklin’s contribution.

The board of Uppsala University has called on the Swedish government to condemn Israel’s actions, to resume funding UNRWA, and take all available measures (including trade sanctions against Israel) to prevent a genocide in Gaza (see: www.uu.se/en/news/2025...). Visited the Ytterby mine today. Eight chemical elements (rare earths) were discovered in mineral specimen from this site.
The site is beautiful but very low key like most heritage sites connected to Swedish history of science.
