Whenever lib people rush to the defenses of democrats for doing awful, deplorable things, they always say things like "purity tests are ruining politics!" and "it's better than the alternative!"

I don't understand this attitude towards politicians. They're not your parents. You owe them nothing.

This is one thing that makes me feel better about all the insane shit going on in this world. The nearly irrefutable evidence that people who are like this are (at least partially) like this because they have never once known love and are completely empty inside.

No sympathy, still.
Will someone please give this desperate fool a hug? He clearly must have been neglected or abused as a child. I'm willing to take one for the team if it means he'll get sime desperately needed therapy.

All pro-AI media is just the Farley/Sandler scene from Billy Madison talking to the public.

Doofus: AI can do any job a human can!
Me: No, it can't.
Doofus: No...no, it can't...but, it will be ABLE TO!
Me: No, it won't.
Doofus: No...it won't. But you can imagine what it would be like if it did!!!
December 11, 2025 at 2:14 AM
First of all: no.
Secondly: I can't, and nobody can, because death is real and permanent, and using an AI to cobble together a pastiche of things she said before is not in any way shape or form "speaking to my grandmother."

How in the world can anybody be so media illiterate as to think that the ending of NO COUNTRY is in any way shape or form "ambiguous?"

Moss is killed, his wife is killed, Chigur gets away, and at the end, Bell reflects on the savagery of the changing world and feels helpless to stop it.
What's going on on that other website?

The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials say.
South Carolina measles outbreak is 'accelerating,' driving hundreds into quarantine
Some students who remain unvaccinated are now in a second 21-day quarantine since the beginning of the school year.

Again, this is why milquetoasts idiots like Ezra Klein have to be repudiated. This never happened. If anything, anybody who even suggested we *shouldn't* have gone to war was ostracized and ridiculed by the mainstream. There's no "agreeing to disagree" on this.
ah yes, everyone remembers that moment after 9/11 where everyone got cancelled and we started the extremely woke war on terror www.piratewires.com/p/heather-co...

Counterpoint: things that do not have utilitarian value to you are still valuable.
Is it too much to ask to get a criminal justice degree without having to also be required to spend $800 to balance chemical equations for some reason? The election valence of Mercury is irrelevant. It’s useful to someone, but it’s not useful to me.

Even if SCOTUS overturns Humphrey's Executor their holding will likely explicitly or implicitly carve out an exception for the Federal Reserve, because it's a "quasi-private" institution.
Interesting. End The Fed.

Most of the people reacting to this angrily are naming Presidents who did and passionately believed in worse things than Trump is doing now.
December 9, 2025 at 10:53 PM
I will never forget the scores of people, who are otherwise incredibly sharp and well-informed people, who by sheer virtue of Trump's wealth and "success" always pushed back at me when I talked about how stupid Trump is.

He's jaw-droppingly stupid. It's always been so painfully obvious.
there is no available evidence that donald trump understands what a tariff is, what a trade deficit is, and what the national debt is.
The way Trump talks about the problems he caused by unilaterally imposing tariffs is fairly insane, even by his standards.

Fantastic post by Steve, per usual. Gives amazing context and analysis as to why there's way too much doom 'n' gloom prognostication over this, and the theory most seem to hold that "they would have denied cert if they weren't going to side with Trump!" is not really founded in anything.
I understand, as well as anyone, why folks are cynical about #SCOTUS. But even from the conservative justices' perspective, the birthright citizenship case is easy. And the Justice Department knows it, too; as I wrote in September, its bevavior in these cases has just been going through the motions:
179. Whither the Birthright Citizenship Cases?
Notwithstanding the Court's June ruling, President Trump's birthright citizenship executive order remains blocked—a broader lesson on the risks of paying attention to only one part of the news cycle.

I was ranting about LLM generative AI to my wife last night and described its method of "generating content" as something akin to "digital baleen"...it just sort of sucks up all the content it can, filters out what *seems* right or good, and then vomits out a meaningless pastiche.

The latest anti-QT furor is so bizarre, as is almost all anti-whatever-famous-creative-person Internet dogpiling, because, as per usual, it's not based at all on his creative output or skills as a filmmaker.

Yeah, QT has shitty takes. Who gives a fuck? I'm not his friend and I don't work for him.

I think a lot of people who try to prognosticate about worst case scenarios re: SCOTUS decisions et al underestimate the degree to which, even the most vile and contemptible fed soc guys understand that at its heart, any judicial system is just words on a piece of paper.
December 6, 2025 at 8:23 PM
In addition to all the other preposterous things about the birthright citizenship argument, there's all sorts of insanely idiotic questions that shouldn't even be asked because they're impossible to answer?

How does this get enforced? Do you need a passport at the hospital? Is THAT constitutional?
December 6, 2025 at 5:27 AM
I may live to regret saying this, but I don't think SCOTUS rules in favor of Trump re: birthright citizenship.

It's so blatantly, plainly obvious from any analysis what the text of the 14th amendment means. What Trump's DOJ is suggesting is preposterous, even for this SCOTUS.

My son just got his 2-month vaccines today. Poor guy is a little zonked, but otherwise doing well. Was not prepared for how much it would hurt me to hear him wail at the peak of getting shots.

Our pediatrician's office mandates vaccines for any of their patients, which was enough to sell me.

This is the equivalent of a cop saying "A person who committed a crime was fleeing in a car. I rammed his car off the road and it burst into flames. The person was attempting to exit the vehicle in order to continue his crimes, so I was justified in shooting him to death."
December 4, 2025 at 8:40 PM
The entire "Elon rigged the election using Starlink! Congress must investigate!" thing is such an obvious trojan horse.

The election machines aren't connected to the Internet in any way, first of all. Sensitive data like that is "air-gapped," only manual transfer of data.

All the very real consequences and ramifications of this shit aside, this piece gets to the heart of why I eventually stopped worrying about a true, coordinated, fascist takeover and permanent reshaping of America.

Trump doesn't care about anything besides Trump.

The President Who Never Grew Up
Instead of focusing on governing, Trump spends his days chasing entertainment, attention and renovation projects that reflect a presidency stuck in adolescence.
