We live in a time where demagogues, billionaires, and chancers try to take control. Hence the quote above that loosely translates as “A people that cave in to tyrants will lose more than life and possessions; they’ll lose light itself”
The hybrid part is fossil gas
February 12, 2026 at 3:23 PM
The economics are rigged (my opinion) in favour of fossil fuels.

So hybrid is great because you can run it on cheap gas!!
February 12, 2026 at 1:15 PM
Similarly it is cheaper to fly from Glasgow to Kraków and then to London then it is to take a train. The latter uses a fraction of the carbon

If I were a conspiracy theorist I may think that a few fossil fuel lobbyists are working hard to keep the crazy electricity prices where they are
February 12, 2026 at 10:57 AM
It’s playing on people’s anxieties.

Here it’s the anxiety that a heatpump cannot be good enough on its own, you need some trusted gas to act as a backup.

It cannot he the argument that is a backup when electricity fails, because gas boilers rely on electricity to work
February 12, 2026 at 7:17 AM
Except it is more efficient to use that same gas to generate electricity and run the heatpump on that electricity.

Grid peak use is typically in the middle of the day; if you want to flatten that batteries are awesome
February 12, 2026 at 7:13 AM
The worst of both worlds. Expensive, needs gas servicing, twice as fragile, and it still burns fossil stuff…

Whereas there’s a mature discussion in other countries, the lords have taken it onto themselves to act like feudal lords. @zackpolanski.bsky.social @eddavey.libdems.org.uk should be all over this as the two remaining progressive voices in British politics
The #AssistedDying Bill now has 1,227 proposed amendments – more than any other Bill in UK Parliament history. Peers have set the Bill up to fail. This is filibustering and it distracts from the real task, getting the safeguards right and delivering a law that works.

The highlighted sentence could do with a reference. There may indeed be an independent study supporting it, or the complainants may have invented it.
