We live in a time where demagogues, billionaires, and chancers try to take control. Hence the quote above that loosely translates as “A people that cave in to tyrants will lose more than life and possessions; they’ll lose light itself”
Any idea as to why OFGEM thinks it’s a good idea to upgrade the gas network to the tune of 17 billion? Shouldn’t we spend more on electrification?
December 5, 2025 at 1:02 PM
The government’s response is to spend 10 billion on upgrading the electric grid and 17 billion (!) on updating the gas grid.

Let’s sink more money and resources in fossil fuel.

Is was maddening to think that people want to use hydrogen for heating buildings; at least 6x less efficient than heatpumps.

Even more maddening given that green hydrogen is going to use our scarce water supply, and we should reserve it for those bits of industry that will rely on it

Never forget who the the Rothermeres chooses to side with.

Fixed it for you

Well played sir!

It’s lovely.

What comes close is a quote about the Judean People Front

Like with Truss the bond markets may dislike you.

Unlike with Truss this is for a good cause.

Hah! Good find!

Even if it freezes over, there’s still water flowing underneath the ice which one can cool down by 1C. The for must be the same, unless there’s a big lake forming somewhere.

Winter flow will be lower than spring flow but still vast

A mistake that has no practical difference
November 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Check my maths, but water holds 4 J per gram per degree C; flow rate is between 500 and 2000 cubic metres pets second; that is between 2 and 8 GWatt per degree input. At 4x that is 8-32 GWatt output for 1 degree of cooling?
November 24, 2025 at 11:18 AM
That’s a marvel. We could get hot water in the summer from the sun, but not in the winter

Heating can be worth it when you are old or ill. The cost depends on the size of your accommodation. Something small is lots cheaper than crazy sized houses

They may be bought by speculators, hoping their value will appreciate by creating a shortage.

Cold showers? Or do you wear a woolly hat in the shower too?

Long. V

But future generations will thank you

I remember the sense of hope that a Labour government would deliver change.

Today the last bit of hope has been buried.

We need government that is unapologetic in its support for humanity.
November 17, 2025 at 5:11 PM
We need a recall petition for all of them
November 16, 2025 at 10:23 PM
And this excludes the fact that the population in London is growing. Deaths per capita has fallen even faster.
November 16, 2025 at 2:48 PM
If only all political leaders were this well informed
November 15, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Yes.

Once you price energy based on emissions, installing a heatpump becomes immediately economical, but you need a large pot of cash up front that not everybody has access to.

A loan or a grant would help. Sadly the government seems to go the other way

Too close to the bone.

Scrap that. Spot on
