Hello, it's me, Kali, half of @gemroomgames.bsky.social! You may know me from DUKK BÖRG, Letters to Sandra, 9 Lives to Valhalla, or occasional parenting & art stuff. I'm usually tired!
I made a hot cocoa cake (chocolate with heaps of thick whipped cream and marshmallows) for my kid's winter wonderland party.
Just look at it.

drives me nuts when a recipe is called like "Smoky [food that requires heavy seasoning for sufficient flavor]" and the "smoky" turns out to be like 1/8 tsp of smoked paprika in a vat of food

Why?? is my car always growing moss?? It's been washed recently and yet. Does the moss know I don't trust it and comes to me like a cat would? Is my car infected somehow? I am not ready for my car to lie down in the forest and let the moss take it

Nothing like other parents refusing to parent their feral children in an indoor restaurant to make your own children shine like perfect angels & simultaneously build your resentment even before drinks have arrived!

tonight I made quesadillas with jammy sauteed zucchini and spiced black beans and roasted pine nuts and it was so good and there's that, at least

Sometimes you call because failing to register your objection functions as tacit approval of what is being done, which is unacceptable.
My attitude on this is that I'm not calling them because I think I can change their minds.

I'm calling them because it is unthinkable to let them do this without hearing how evil and awful they are.

My spite powers me. If I can get just 500 people a day to join me, we could fuck up their day.
I call Tommy Tuberville every fucking week, multiple times a week, because he can be evil but I don't have to let him do it without pushback.

So I don't need to hear excuses. I call the dumbest senator in the country. 😂

and somehow I still need to mealplan and negotiate between kids and fold the laundry like it's every other day, wash & repeat over & over again

Watching the Rose Parade feeds in full sickos mode for commentary like "the skin is made from thousands of crushed split white peas!" "locals collected native acorns themselves!" "the hippos' bath is 15,00 lavendar and mums! the hippos are lettuce seed!"

fuckin' love it.

The point of the 1982 Billy Joel performance of Auld Lang Syne when my 6 year old called out "it's Baby Jesus!"

Over here looking up obscure-to-us time zones to customize when we tell our children the new year has struck while reasonably respecting bedtime

Small kindness big impact:
Context: I was aggressively overworked in a bad living situation with a destroyed social life, very lonely & worn out.
I stopped at the bodega at some random too-late hour for some instant mac early AM dinner & the older guy behind the counter took a second to see me

I would like to hear about a time someone, a stranger even, was very kind to you without any prompting, ulterior motive, or strings attached.

When I subtract the handful I borrowed but chose to walk away from partway through, it would appear that I read ehhh approximately 136 books this year? November was a real slim month, what with all the fever dreams, but it still averages out to a bit over 11 books a month.

Huh!

Hooray Libby!

oh dear, I'm either an honorary teachers assistant or the power what powers the apparent universe.

I feel both over- and underqualified.
Well, now I'm an English professor...

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

keeping my spaghetti from going cold. keeping my buttered toast toasty. keeping my quesadillas melty.

my plate cabinets are so cold in the winter and my food never knows.
The reason I use my microwave for most meals?
Warming plates. Warming bowls. Putting hot food on a cold plate sucks and makes the food cool off both too soon and unevenly. Putting hot food on a lightly warmed plate? SO much better.

my kid told me my boobs looked like a sad sad big duck in that sweater.

Game design lunch notes:

it is always worth fighting back against tyranny, even if you know you cannot win, when the alternative is offering tacit approval of the evils being done.

I've raved about EcoEnclose products over as @gemroomgames.bsky.social & now I'm really interested in their seaweed-based polybags.
I had 2 packages arrive yesterday in our current atmospheric river conditions, drenched through & was reminded of what a big difference a polybag can make, but!
