My Welsh Nanna always called her pension, "The Lloyd George".
I remember hearing Lloyd George's daughter Olwen interviewed on Women's Hour c.1980: "I always thank the old boy when I go to collect my pension."
On this day in 1909 the first state pensions came into force - thanks to a Liberal government.

You know how The Morecambe & Wise Show and The Two Ronnies had legendary runs in the 70s? Both programmes only won Best Light Entertainment Entertainment once. Stanley Baxter's shows won it twice. Baxter had some of the best and best looking entertainment programmes on British television.
