Same with Vanderbilt in TN, affected by NIH grant cancellations. A lot of the state relies on their medical facilities/staff.

So many NIH staff are being laid off and so much funding for NIH research is being withheld or cancelled

‘Chaos and Confusion’ at the N.I.H., the Crown Jewel of American Science
Senior scientists at the National Institutes of Health fear that research on conditions like obesity, heart disease and cancer will be undermined by President Trump’s policies.

NIH research continues to be gutted, and we are losing the next generation of scientists. When this is finished, it will be difficult to pick up the pieces and still have the NIH as the jewel of basic research in the whole world.

My lab at the Nashville Stand Up for Science demonstration. We, as well as many other scientists at Vanderbilt and many institutions around the country are having to consider laying off lab members and slow down the progress of our research on Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

While the current administration slaps tariffs down as a way to "combat fentanyl" from entering the US, the Musker is cancelling funding at the NIH for cancer research. It should be noted that 87,000 people died from fentanyl in 2024 vs 611,000 from cancer....🤬

"the CIA has apparently sent a buyout offer to its entire workforce in what looks like an attempt to gut the agency. And the entire Department of Education is said to be targeted for attempted abolishment by Executive Order.

Article I says Congress makes laws and has power of the purse.

Article II requires POTUS to faithfully execute laws.

Refusing to execute laws so he can usurp Congress’s budgetary authority is unconstitutional.

A self-respecting Congress would do a veto-proof resolution, and if necessary, impeach.

So pushback works. Much of the funding from the Inflation Reduction Act is being spent in Republican states. So I assume lots of people contacted him.

So let's contact our congresspeople!

I called my Congressional rep about this. Even though I'm in a blue district, I urged higher priority on it in the name of public health.
Per an NIH source:

“Discussions with colleagues have suggested that if the universities all come together and raise hell about the delays to funding caused by not holding meetings, that might move the needle. From every state. There are well-funded universities in red states that will be impacted.”

Yes, and Dems on the Hill should be lighting this up.
The Q for every member of Congress, above all, is what exactly they plan to do to defend the existence of an independent legislative branch. I believe the courts will eventually act, perhaps sooner than later. In the meantime, I might just put Schoolhouse Rock on repeat outside Grassley's door. /end

As this "pause" hits you and your project, institution, workplace, etc:

TELL SOMEONE ABOUT IT.

Contact your MoC, esp if they're a Dem. Contact a relevant advocacy group. Contact the press, local, regional, movement, trade - and not just for an LtE, for a story.

Tell real life stories of harm.

This is the ethos of project 2025, dismantling the federal government by any means necessary
by freezing all federal grants, trump is fundamentally transforming the relationship between the executive and congress. he is asserting dictatorial authority over federal spending, transforming congress's lawmaking powers into advisory authority. it is a constitutional crisis

To play this out, there will be literally dozens of lawsuits challenging what OMB is doing on the ground that it violates the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. Trump’s DOJ will argue that the Act is unconstitutional. And this will quickly get to #SCOTUS, where it will be the biggest case of the term.
