New horrors keep coming every day out of Congo. I wish more people would pay attention. These people are facing a genocide for the minerals in their land.

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

Honored to speak at the Day of Remembrance for the 1886 Expulsion of Chinese Residents from Seattle.
From federal exclusions to local redlining and ongoing hate crimes, we must remain committed to fighting racism in all forms and making Seattle a safe, welcoming city for all of our residents.

Look, all you need to know about the situation is that Green Day sang "American Idiot" at the opening and explicitly told ICE to quit their jobs at their show on Saturday and Bad Bunny said a bunch of stuff in Spanish and alllll the headlines and angry posts are about Bad Bunny. You know why.

One of the greatest assaults on Black history that this country has done is reducing Black radical figures to cultural objects. Like Langston Hughes was a poet & a communist & a radical. He was called unAmerican for asking why atomic bombs weren't dropped on Italy & Germany. Let's teach that.

The same people who spent decades saying it was unrealistic to demand that the US didn’t do violence, as recently as defending Kamala saying that she wanted to create the “deadliest” military in the world, are shocked the US is so violent.

This didn’t come out of nowhere

The kidnappings of Black, Latine, Indigenous, and Asian US citizens are not an accident. They are the leading edge of a wide-scale ethnic cleansing campaign with centuries-old roots that is intentionally targeting not just non-citizens but all people of color.

All. People. Of. Color.

The thing about that child is there isn’t a single child in the world I’d be okay with this happening to. Not even their kids. The children are all ours, and to miss that is to dehumanize completely.

ICE is not Gestapo, but slave patrols.

It's not foreign, but deeply American, categorical brutalization of non-white people (& now those who stand up for them).

They do not need to have warrants, and people facing deportation are not entitled to lawyers, or what we imagine as due process.
“ICE isn’t the Gestapo. The Gestapo was…” (proceeds to describe qualities that apply to what ICE is currently doing)

actual self-accountability demands more than acknowledgement of bad judgement or ideas. you have to also take affirmative action to address the terrible things you said and did. you have to do that with no expectations that people you harmed will ever accept or certainly forgive you.

If you’re in Black women’s mentions arguing that “say her name” isn’t a slogan that belongs to the movement for Black women then you’re an operative for white supremacy and you should leave Renee Nicole Good, who died while defending Black immigrants, out of your bullshit

It is the fact that we will not know these Venezuelans names or stories beyond the president and his wife who were kidnapped.

That they are talked about as pawns in a global story by us all.

The belligerent violation of the lives of human beings, the imagery of fire and flames over there, the screams muted under the overdub of commentators— fuels the tech, the violence, the l racism and hate, that legitimates kidnappings here.

You cannot be for one and against the other.

Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.

This is not the first US imperial atrocity for oil —let’s not exceptionalize it— but wow is is it awful. And the violation of Venezuelans domestically in the name of a sovereign borders they actually dgaf about.

As Aimee Cesaire put it— the price of imperialism is the empire’s own civilization.
