Early Sunday morning, a driver struck and killed a 38-year-old named Allie who was biking across Beacon Ave S. The driver fled the scene. As a lifelong cyclist who’s had my share of close calls, my heart goes out to Allie’s family and friends.

I was so sad to hear about the death of a cyclist due to a hit-and-run on Beacon Ave. Allie was a beloved community member, avid biker, & advocate for safer transit & streets. My condolences to their family and friends. But condolences are hollow if we don’t take action to prevent the next tragedy.

The person who was killed last night crossing Beacon Ave on a bike by a hit-and-run driver was named Allie. They were described as a "hard-core cyclist."

The vigil/protest is expected to take over Beacon and Stevens until midnight, if SPD lets that happen.

Eddie Lin, District 2's newly elected councilmember, was sworn in on Dec. 2. Reflecting on the budget Council inherited, Lin says he intends to bring forward more progressive revenue in the next budget cycle:
