Russia cannot reach its initial strategic goals and will lose, no matter how long the war lasts.
Europe decides how long it continues.
Stop hoping it will end by itself, and make it end sooner by seizing Russia’s frozen assets!

The impact of Russia's bombing campaigns and the resulting blackouts isn't just physical, it's a constant state of high-alert anxiety and anger.
The physical hardship is secondary. The true horror of the blackouts is isolation.

simply surrender to the nation that is bombing us, that murdered our friends in their homes with missiles and bombs, that has dug mass graves for our people, that drowned our people in the flood, that had torture chambers for children, that abducts childrenis, is an absolute absurdity.

Just sent out this piece--maybe the most depressing I have written (sorry). The future of war is emerging in front of our eyes, and its terrifying. It is a combination of ranged fires in mass and a willingness to commit war crimes. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

I don't know if this is of interest to anyone but myself but I'm sharing it anyway.
I've been on a genealogy journey since I spat in a test tube almost ten years ago.
And since the test result was an uninspiring 100% Finnish, I've been on a 'where did Finns come from' and 'who are we' journey.

Among Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, it was Hungary that exited Moscow's grip in 1990 with the highest GDP per capita.
The Russian-backed Orban regime has since looted the country to the point that it's now the lowest.

Hoping, against odds, that things will turn out fine is bad governance. Negligent.
Polls showed already in 2023 that Tr*mp was likely to win the presidential election. Why wasn't Europe prepared for that?
Europe hoped that US commitment to NATO wouldn't change...

Europe has maintained its support for Ukraine this year and filled in the gap that the USA left behind.
The problem is that maintaining previous levels of support is not enough for Ukraine to win, just to keep it in the fight.
Ukraine has massively scaled up its own production, giving it an edge.
