#Kyiv residents share pictures of their frozen homes and how they try to heat them.

After Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, electricity and heating are scarce in Kyiv.

A new wave of very cold weather is expected by the end of the week.

Our solidarity is not a slogan.

We are providing Ukraine and Moldova - who is hosting refugees - with €153 million in emergency humanitarian aid, as millions face freezing temperatures without power following sustained Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

I'm a late convert to a multi-speed Europe, but increasingly convinced that it's the only way to rise to the demands of the moment. Let an inner core pioneer new initiatives, and others join when they can.
A real change in how Germany approaches the EU is happening. Berlin used to prioritise the unity of the 27 and now seems much more open towards coalitions of the willing.

Next step is initiative by Finance minister Klingenbeil to build an avant-garde with 🇫🇷🇵🇱🇮🇹🇳🇱🇪🇸:
Six EU countries hold call in push for 'two‑speed' Europe
Ministers from six leading European economies, including Germany and France, will discuss on Wednesday plans to push ahead with joint projects without the rest of the EU, to facilitate agile decision-...

I find it so disheartening to listen to politicians - minister and similar levels - who keep saying things like “we should, one might, it would be good…” AS IF IT IS NOT THEM WHO SHOULD MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Who are you talking to, this is YOUR JOB.

That's a point as valid for the EU and UK as it is for Ukraine
Security guarantees from Trump can’t be relied on. He treats any decision point as an opportunity for extortion.
The Trump admin has indicated to Ukraine that US security guarantees are contingent on Kyiv first agreeing a peace deal that would likely involve ceding the Donbas region to Russia…

The media are fixated on the Trump Administration’s fascist rhetoric & bloody repression.
Europe’s leaders must focus on what would actually weaken fascists: Defend Ukraine. Free Iran. Dismantle the Russian war machine and the global networks propping it up.
