I’ve been feeling so sad all day after hearing of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social ‘s passing. Her work profoundly shaped the way I think about disability and, I think, made me a better person. How lucky are we to have spent time on this planet at the same time as Alice Wong? Rest in peace, dear cyborg ❤️

Every Monday I facilitate an English conversation class for speakers of other languages at my library. I always tell them how happy I am that they’re there and how our class is full of kind people. I love when they make friends. I am proud that I’m giving folks a safe space where they feel welcome.
i wrote this post in july two years ago when blue sky had around 200,000 total users and i thought i would ask again

tell me what u are doing
be proud of what u do and share it here

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

The thing about investing in public transit is that it *scales* — the more people use it, the better it gets. For everyone.

Whereas the more cars there are, the *worse* everything about driving gets. Traffic. Parking.

[Ever noticed that in just about every car ad it’s alone on the road? Yeah.]
Mamdani: We need to make public transportation so good that “no matter how much money is in your pocket, you say: I’m gonna use this.”

We need the Council to significantly increase library funding to pay workers more. This is essential.
“Starting this weekend, seven-day service will expand to 11 more public library branches citywide, bringing the total number of libraries open all week to more than 30, according to the New York City Council.”
These NYC libraries are starting Sunday service this weekend
Nearly a dozen branches will open their doors, bringing the total number of libraries with seven-day service to more than 30.

I want a politics that widens the circle to include everyone, not one that shrinks the circle by throwing *undesirables* under the bus. I think this is basic. I am interested in a politics that is rooted at the sources of people's suffering. I am interested in a politics that attends to basic needs.

I first met my boyfriend in 2013 at a concert he played in Portland. When I moved to NYC we reconnected and we’ve been living together for six years.
What is your biggest concert flex?

We're definitely entering an era where the Internet is so hollowed out, so untrustworthy and compromised, that real world interactions, things identifiably done by human beings, will take on greater value and purpose.

Save the Date 10/4 for NYC Public Library Action Network's next People's Assembly. I hope that lots of New Yorkers will attend to learn more about how public libraries function in our city and to bring your voice to the future we want for these institutions. More soon with details about location.

My favorite thing about working at the library is giving things away. It’s a great feeling.
My aunt just discovered the free seeds at the library and it’s safe to say that she is losing her mind.

“And they just out there — FREE!”

Almost twice as many people ride the New York City bus every day as live in Wyoming.

The bus should have two senators
The Senators that voted 'yes' on this disastrous bill represent more than 30 million FEWER Americans than the Senators that voted 'no.'

There's a lot to be said about identity, solidarity. But a simple place to start: the people who are willing to fight for their neighbors when their neighbors have different problems have a very, very good chance of having neighbors to fight with when you all share problems

Ironically, this not only is an argument to vote for Zohran (because Gristedes sucks), but it also would make Zohran's plan easier, because it would create a bunch of vacant supermarket spaces that are ready to be taken over and converted with minimal additional buildout.
