What rights do people have as ICE continues to grow, and as the president deploys the National Guard domestically? @anneapplebaum.bsky.social explores this in the new season of “Autocracy in America.” Listen here:
Federal Agents Are Violating the Rights of Americans
ICE and the National Guard are acting with impunity.

BREAKING: Massive Crowds of Anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis, Minnesota as we speak. The tide is turning. America is Fed Up.

Americans should be fighting back against what is happening in this country. Having masked, secret police shooting people, breaking into homes and cars, is NOT normal.

I can't believe I'm posting this video - but we actually have to have a conversation about the real world implications of America going to war over Greenland.

Let me walk you through it. It doesn't turn out well for us.

Every major Dem politician needs to realize that, in this environment, they can schedule a "speech to the nation," like Newsom did, and get tons of media coverage.

Just do it.

These RFK Jr hires have MASSIVE conflicts of interest.

Kulldorf, and all the Great Barrington people, took money from anti-science anti-vax billionaires through AIER, which is the rightwing billionaire thinktank that hosted the GBR.

@aoc.bsky.social should skewer RFK Jr. on this.

Holy shit, this is horrifying.

Today and every day we stand with @seiuca.bsky.social and our immigrant friends and neighbors.
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing.

ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And now 750,000 SEIU workers are standing up behind him.

One thing the MAHA report is seriously missing: connection to reality. You can’t tackle chronic illness while gutting the workforce that prevents it. Health departments hollowed out, $11b of directed federal support pulled, 20k jobs at health agencies eliminated.

Deep cuts erode the foundations of US public health system, end progress, threaten worse to come

This is likely the kind of shadow docket decision coming for NIH, HHS, and other agencies next week.

Get ready, US scientists.

Let's focus public attention on the Supreme Court now, so John Roberts worries about the backlash if he votes to allow the DOGE firings.

🧪 1/3
Today's shadow docket decision allowing DOGE immediate access to individual Social Security data is a flaming turd substantively and procedurally. Justice Jackson, dissenting, joined by Justice Sotomayor; Justice Kagan also would've denied the stay. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Very smart, high ROI initiative from the Spencer Foundation.

Providing bridge funding for canceled NSF grants:

1) directs funds to projects already screened by a top-noch review process.
2) avoids imposing proposal prep costs on researchers.
3) ameliorates the disruption from GOP sabotage.

- Sec. 10008 - Expands work requirements for SNAP
- Project 2025: Pushes “moral reform” to make low-income people work more for food assistance.

Some DOGE political appointee choosing which grants to fund is oppression of academic freedom and scientific freedom.

If the right wants to kill science in the US, the surest way to do that is to take away scientists’ freedom to judge which ideas are meritorious.
Read the whole thing. You won’t be surprised, but you should be outraged.
