Fascinated by the fragile beauty of the polar regions. Studying melt features in firn & ice records. PhD @BAS.
What a way to start a #postdoc! I spent Aug-Sep as part of the #BeyondEPICA campaign @bas.ac.uk, handling unique a #icecore that likely holds >1.2 million yrs of climate history. 😲 This European collaboration is breaking many records, with an incredible amount of data waiting to tell its story... ✨

What hibernates in spring-summer & resurfaces in autumn?
A happy ice-core #PhD student, who successfully defended in May & enjoyed a proper break before starting a postdoc @bas.ac.uk. 🎓 That’s #me — now back on track for a new season of #science, with more on my early #postdoc adventures to come.

🎉 Proud to be part of this pioneering research, which has just been published in @agu.org JGR Atmospheres! The team, led by Dieter Tetzner at @bas.ac.uk, ventured to one of the world's most remote ice fields to extract the first #firn core from Chile's Cordillera Darwin. ❄️ 1/2

“Fixing climate change is too expensive.”

Um no. What’s really expensive is doing nothing.

Climate disasters cost billions—and those costs are rising fast. Climate solutions save money and lives, as well as building a better world for us all 🌏💚

It’s not always easy to work with #icecores affected by #melt, but they still have important climate stories to tell. 💧❄️ I’m grateful I got to share about our work in the #Arctic - and I hope it encourages others that all is not lost. @carbonbrief.org

Rain in the northernmost city on Earth. This month temperatures have been almost always above normal.

The Arctic is becoming totally unrecognisable.

And in the meantime #BP and #Equinor are doubling down on fossil fuels.

Profits over people. Profits over a liveable Earth.

Climate scientists, it’s your turn.

If you rely on data from NOAA, time to start backing it up. Probably not a bad idea for people to do this with NASA, USGS, EPA, etc.

Our group is doing our best but there’s a lot of data out there to save from King Control-X here.
