There's someone in the attic.

The post is four images with text overlaid. The background image of the first is a hallway, seen from a crack at the bottom of a door. The text is as follows: There's someone in the attic. I'm sure of it. Yesterday I was in the hallway, walking back to my room, when the front door opened. That's not supposed to happen. I live alone for a reason. Nothing unexpected is supposed to happen. No one is supposed to happen. I slammed my door shut behind me. I listened. Heavy footsteps. Slow. Carrying something heavy. Stopped at my door. I crept down to the gap under the door, pressing my face to the floor. There he was, I'm sure of it. Oxfords. Clean. Right in front of me. Pointed at me. He knows I'm here. Going upstairs now. Slow. Creaking. Carrying something heavy. I waited there on the floor for over an hour, praying for him to leave. The ever-present constriction of my stomach formed a ball that stays with me still. I don't dare leave. Who is He? What does He want? The people outside my window seem to mock me, walking by free and careless. Unknowing of the pressure building in my lungs. The pressure in my head. The sinking sensation in my stomach when I hear the second floor creak above me. He's still here. Someone's still here. Tools dropped on the floor above me. Something heavy sliding. Hours and hours. He's building something. He's still here. Someone's still here. The second image is incredibly dark, the only light coming from a cracked door the camera is hiding behind. Beyond the door you can faintly see the shadow of someone that headed upstairs. The text is as follows: He remains, somewhere up there. It's been over a day, sleepless. He hasn't come back down, or has He? Is He still in the attic? Has He moved? Out of food now, need more. My cheek touches the floor again. I scan left and right. Nobody's there. I can't make out any more than the bottom two steps. Is someone there? Is He there? The people outside my window jeer at me. Why are they still there? Why won't they leave? I'm so hungry. I push against the door and turn the knob slowly, not letting the mechanism inside it click. I ease the door back enough to peer through the crack. Slacks on the stairs. Oxfords. He's right there. The slam echoes through the tiny house. Silence. He's right there. He's still there. Watching? Waiting. I listen closely. Silence. Half an hour passes. Frozen; stuck in place. He must have seen me, right? He may never move. Why would He? What does He want? Work begins again in the attic. Dust settles on the floor and I am trapped inside. Am I safe anywhere? The third image shows another dimly lit scene inside a house, this time as if looking up from the bottom of a staircase. The light fades the higher up the stairs you look, until there is nothing but darkness at the top. The text reads: The people outside my window grow restless. Their derision creeps in through the gaps in the curtain, through the filthy glass. I grow restless; angry. Why am I like this? Why can't I say anything to them? Why am I trapped in my room again? This house was supposed to stop this, and what? It's been taken from me. That man in the attic. Why won't he go away? What's he building? He's still on the stairs, I know it. Waiting. Still waiting. It's dark again now. My stomach aches. This has to stop. Work began again in the attic. Maybe if I run fast enough, He won't see me? Won't know I'm there. Invigorated. I grab the handle and twist. My body fills with excitement, my shoulders are shaking. The ball in my stomach grows and sinks. I can't do it. I can't do it. What if He's still there? What if He sees me? The door flings open. I sprint into the dark hallway, running toward the light that shines through the front door window. The stairs are dark. Presence unknowable. I round the corner to the kitchen. Dark corners hide shadows. Cereal on the counter. Back to safety. Stairs are dark. Was the door that ajar? Stairs are dark. The attic lies quiet. The door slams behind me. The people outside my window are quiet. The final image is a white void, filled only with the silhouette of an ornate mirror, its normally reflective surface black. The text inside of it reads: I saw something in the mirror. I know I did. Someone is watching me. Where? The shadows coat everything. Hide everything. The mirror is the safest place. Furthest away from whatever it was. Whoever it was. Eyes creep out. Watching from everywhere. My closet. My bed. Under the door. In every corner and behind every object. I glance back into the mirror, desperate for clues. Where was it? Where did I see it? Where did they go? Nothing but darkness. Nothing but my reflection. Work is finished in the attic. It's coming for me. He's coming for me. The machine is complete. It must be. Why would they appear now, of all times? Shadows hide everything; hide everyone. Nowhere for me to hide. In front of the mirror I can watch all angles. The people outside are restless. Echoes from the attic. Something is moving. He is still there. But he's not here. I'm safe when he's not here; when someone's not here. They can wait in the shadows, fine. As long as they're not here. The ceiling creaks above me, but it's not here. I'm safe here. The eyes appear in the vent. The eyes appear in the mirror. I appear in the mirror. I am here. I am safe here. The stairs creak. Footsteps. Slow. Carrying something heavy. I am safe here. The people outside my window jeer. I am safe here. Heart racing, breathing fast. I am safe here. Stomach is sinking. I am safe here. They grow closer. I am safe here. They stop outside my door. I am safe here. Shadows created by His oxfords appear beneath the door. This is the end of the story. Thank you for reading/listening to it. TileSets have proven to be super useful to break out in the Little Goblin level editor. The TileData custom data is super useful, and in this case I used it to automatically create object categories for sorting purposes. #Godot #GodotEngine

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Ever since I learned this, I have made a point to preorder books from authors and artists I follow from my local bookstore. Often, they'll order an extra copy or two to stock on the shelves. It's crazy how low the number is to make a tangible difference!

In The Labyrinth of Time, entering the Ziggurat without a lantern is supposed to show a black screen. However, the developers put in the wrong filename for the black screen, so it fails to render, showing a black screen instead
