What controls how/when growing RNA unblocks the "door" to exit RNA polymerase? Brilliant duo Anna Wang and Abhishek Majumder led a study in my lab - now out in NAR - on this. *Sequence* matters a lot! Read on... Super smFRET/dynamics work as well. Excited! academic.oup.com/nar/article/...
The displacement of the σ70 finger in initial transcription is highly heterogeneous and promoter-dependent
Abstract. Most bacterial sigma factors (σ) contain a highly conserved structural module, the ‘σ-finger’, which forms a loop that protrudes towards the RNA

What a fantastic (TED ) talk by @krishnanyamuna.bsky.social explain her trifecta of dna nanotech, chemistry and electrophysiology for ion transport in organelles You know a conference discussion is excellent when #keynote speaker actually uses the white board to explain . @isbuc.bsky.social

One more monthly COE meeting funded by the NNF Challenge Programme was held.

We discussed how material synthesized by KJJ lab are evaluated by all 3 groups and how #MachineLearning analysis by Hatzakis lab can propel #cardiomyocyte research of Carmos-Fonseca lab.

See our recent article in @natmethods.nature.com on a machine learning model #DeepSPT to rapidly precisely and automatically analyze anomalous diffusion. The model predicted biological identity from diffusion alone indicating that motion beside structure defines function.
Excited to announce this new paper from the Kirchhausen and Hatzakis labs on DeepSPT, a deep learning framework for single-particle/vesicle tracking. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
