This tweet is one of many examples of why it's necessary to portray accurately the way the Nazi definition of "Jew" differed greatly from Jews' definition of Jew. People throw their hands up in horror at the suggestion that we should use scare quotes around every use of the Nazi definition 1/2

Feeling the pressure to get a postdoc at the moment. If anyone has a cushy position available that I could take up in Sept/Oct 2026, let me know ;). I am not even joking. Some nepotism would be wonderful right about now.

Harry Legg's article, 'I Hid for Days in the Basement' was chosen by @npapadogian.bsky.social for its use of autobiographical narrations, "[highlighting] the complexities of this hitherto understudied moment of discovery in the years before the Holocaust". [6/7]

Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.

We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

Forgot to post this earlier, but this piece by @dirkmoses.bsky.social is well worth a read. Subtle references to various historical and historiographical moments make it not only informative but entertaining.

Adam Tooze is simply a legendary writer and thinker. Finally reading his "Wages of Destruction" for the first time (instead of skimming it and reading reviews) and I've never found economic history so compelling. What a phenomenal mind he has.

Does anyone know of a (preferably free) tool which I could use to map the distribution of people from a data set please? It needs to have circles or something which can grow according to the number of people from Berlin, for example.
