Refugee from the #deadbird, but have missed the people I regularly follow there. With grown ups back in charge in the UK, was hoping to enjoy cat videos... and then the US elections happened. Still a proud EUropean

Great announcement from Labour.

Rail fares frozen for the first time in 30 years.

Hopefully part of a longer term strategy to get more people to travel by train!
Thank you Labour!

For the first time in 30 years, rail fares are to be frozen and will NOT be increased in January.

It will save some people hundreds of pounds a year compared to if prices had risen as usual.

I know some people want fares to go down, but Ice said before having them...

We are two days on from the sentencing of Nathan Gill, Reform Wales Leader, for taking bribes from a hostile state. Sent down for 10.5 years. It’s a big deal.

Chances of Kuensberg or Phillips dedicating their Shows to it??? Half their Shows even?

Negligible .

Powerful piece by @drrachelclarke.com on the COVID inquiry. Those who say it’s easy to be wise in hindsight are being utterly disingenuous. Many of us spoke out at the time, and it’s in the public record.

Nothing wrong with constructive criticism; I'm not crazy about govt immigration plans either.
But 90% of what Starmer's govt is doing is for the good of my country, left in a stagnant pool by the last govt, so he still gets my support.

I have been critical of Keir Starmer over the past couple of weeks, but he was right here, despite being vilified by the press at the time.

It is the budget on Wednesday afternoon.

Absolutely no one can tell you with ANY certainty any specific measures which will be in it.

But we do know 3 things the government ARE aiming for:

1) making the NHS fit for the future

2) reducing our national debt

3) improving the cost of living

I didn't sense any pretence in the interview, and as a lesbian, I felt the sincerity and anger when he was discussing what happened to his Niece. He clearly hates discrimination, which makes his HS's immigration proposals all the more frustrating- again, I think it is at odds with his values.
The Keir Starmer interview with Pete Wicks confirms what I still believe: he is a decent man and does have a set of values. I just wish he'd ignore Morgan McSweeney when it comes to Governing and strike a better balance regarding immigration, because I do think it is at odds with his actual beliefs.

There is one thing I will say about Liz Truss: in many respects, she unfairly takes most of the flak for the economic crash that year. I only realised this when Reeves became CX- all economic blame is placed on her. Not the PM. With Truss in charge, it was the reverse.
You may also believe that her feeling the need to prove herself as the first female in the role is frivolous, but I can tell you, as a fellow female in a male-dominated field, we still have to fight to be taken seriously. If women make mistakes, they carry the burden of "women can't do x" forever.
She will receive hate for saying this, but as someone who is not, Chancellor of the Exchequer, I am also sick of men like Kwasi Kwarteng telling Rachel Reeves how to do her job. “boys who now write newspaper columns” was absolutely aimed at him, I am convinced.

“Did you, in your roles as his boss, friend, mentor & party leader, ever question his full-throated support for an enemy of the UK and if not, why not?”

You can have those for nothing, lads.
