My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

In 2018 people started talking about a "techlash" against Silicon Valley. The word kind of disappeared, but the anger is only increasing, especially now with AI being shoved down everyone's throats.

This could become a real political movement.

The Real Techlash Is Coming
Anger at the tech companies is growing, and it could become a genuine political movement.

Josh’s post is worth reading in its entirety. The points:

1) kill the filibuster
2) court reform
3) DC/PR statehood
4) clean up laws on presidential power
5) outlaw extreme gerrymandering

These strike me as a really good starting point of foundational necessities.

Alex’s new music threads each week are awesome. Give her a follow.
It's the final *huge* new music day of the year! There is so much to check out, I'll be sharing some recommendations in here while I listen

I got together with 15 clones of myself and recorded this song, “Other People”!

I can only share the first 3 minutes here, but the last minute is the best minute, so click through to see the whole thing:

Throwing on 11/27/98 set 2

…cuz this is a wipeout-fest.
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees
Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist

the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

It’s unappreciated how on point Trey’s Adrian Belew impression is on 10/31/96. Listen to that Heat Goes On solo. Pure fire. He sounds like a completely different guitarist for one set only. youtu.be/upG2-48o1IQ?...

I haven’t seen a Trey performance like this since summer 2003. Which, ironically, is when this Trey was born.

So you should really watch this. Just 2 minutes. But a window into the truly radical nature of the people Trump is nominating.

When pressed today, the nominee to be Ambassador to South Africa refuses to oppose reinstituting laws to prevent black people from voting in America.

There are more than 2,700 protests today.

Don’t let anyone tell you that fewer people are protesting than in first Trump term. In fact it is far more.

Every single time I see something about the GD Politics podcast, my brain does the following:
1. Oh sick, there’s a Grateful Dead Politics podcast?!
2. Oh never mind, it must be goddamn politics
3. Oh right, it’s Galen Druke.
I talked to Steven Pinker on the latest GD POLITICS podcast episode.

We covered a lot, but one important takeaway was the social value of "Netflix and chill" and other euphemisms and innuendos 😉
