Brekht was the genius behind Ukraine’s astonishingly swift repairs to its damaged power grid, according to Volodymyr Kudrytsky, former head of Ukrenergo. Things may not go so well now, without him. Despite being a top manager he was a hands-on guy and it killed him.

My latest report for #France24 is about Ukraine’s long-range drone strikes on targets in Russia. I saw them taking off. It was cold!

Please note that some drones are big, like unmanned aeroplanes, and others are small like toys, but also deadly.

These are big ones

In Canada more people voted for the Liberal centre in reaction to Trump. Might Trump put enough of the French and other Europeans off the populist right too?

If you’re American maybe you should watch France 24 we’re on the case
Amount of time devoted to MN and fallout Sunday on network newscasts:

NBC: 8.5 minutes
ABC: 7 minutes
CBS: 4 minutes

Only NBC led with the news from MN
Two and half minutes. That’s all the time the CBS Evening News thought today’s events in Minneapolis were worth. Not even time to tell viewers what Alex Pretti did for a living.

The winter storm got 8 minutes.

NBC Nightly News spent 8 minutes, nearly half the show, on Pretti’s killing

I’ve been saying for a while that I sometimes feel more angry with Americans for not protesting than I do with Russians, cos Russians (in Russia) risk their lives if they do…

Terrifying how quickly that’s got less true

Totally.

Ukraine has a higher-than-average proportion of sanewashers. Maybe cos when they read it in translation it’s gone through some kind of preliminary rinse.

It's well past time to call Trump’s stream-of-consciousness monologues exactly what they are.

Fiery speech from Zelensky at Davos lashing out against Europe. I wonder if it’s calculated to please Trump

I think most Ukrainians didn’t know his name until he died.

But they sure as hell knew his work.

What a tragedy

People who didn’t listen to Trump’s speech will open the New York Times or whatever & see headlines like ‘Trump “Won’t use Force” but Demands Greenland’. While that does sound crazy, it does NOT convey the terrifying unhinged reality. Terrifying above all because people clapped. Some even stood up

My take this morning from chilly but sunny Kyiv.

They're saying last night's attack was not The Big One that everyone's expecting. 300 drones is now not considered such a lot

This is the worst-case scenario, he says. Not the only one or even the most likely one.

(IMHO also not actually the *worst*, though…)

In 2013 she was jailed on politically-motivated charges and became a cause célèbre in the West, despite so many Ukrainians’ insistence that she really deserved to be in prison, just not for that reason.

I’m wondering now whether it is possible to say she achieved anything for Ukraine, or even tried
They called Yulia Tymoshenko Ukraine's Joan of Arc. She survived oligarch wars, the Orange Revolution, prison under Yanukovych, and three presidential runs.

In July, she called parliament's vote to gut anti-corruption agencies "the brightest day."

And Americans who moved to Vancouver don’t criticise Trump? I’ve never been to Canada but I find that hard to believe
I have indeed met people from all 3 countries. Obviously the self selecting group that chooses to move to Vancouver is not representative of the broader population, many are here for the same reason many Americans live here, because LGBT people have rights here.

When will it be enough for you all to get out into the streets and stop this madness? Or for Republicans who think they’re really the party of John McCain (or whoever the last vaguely decent famous Republican was) to vote to impeach him?
Holy shit.

Renee Good was alive when the bystander physician asked to check her pulse. She was alive when ICE refused to let him help. She was alive when they told him “I don’t care.”
