Vancouver. Local Politics. Less Local Politics. Tech stuff.
I know what you mean but sorting by most recent replies is indeed an algorithm, just a simple one. And just like more complex system there’s an incentive to game it with all kinds of engagement bait.

They hate us for our freedom.
There's this strong undertone that they feel that Canada MUST fail, because Canada as it existd disagrees so deeply and so fundamentally with their ideological presuppositions about how countries ought to be. They think Canada OUGHT NOT to work.

The one on Hastings in Burnaby Heights has generally been good for me, even if there’s a huge line they seem to move through people faster than other locations.

I’ve rarely found I wait less time even
if I do make an appointment so I’ve just given up on appointments. I’ve managed to find a few locations that are usually fast.

There honestly cannot be a satire cutting enough to make fun of Americans. What the fuck do you mean the highest colonial ideal you could imagine was a parking lot with McDonald's on both sides

These guys just believe the separatist line about equalization.

We responded to threats of annexation not by “looking inward” but with boycotts, retaliatory tariffs, and booing the US national anthem. I’m not sure it’s the most effective strategy but it beats navel gazing.

This particular brand of American smugness really is irritating, but it’s ultimately a form of American exceptionalism. There always has to be a reason why another country is “just as bad” as America. There’s always a reason to lecture us about why we shouldn’t criticize your empire.

More than anything though, we aren’t living in fear day to day, and they can’t fucking stand that.

It’s easy to understand why the American right hates Canada. We are a pluralistic country. Although we certainly have our fair share of bigots, affirmative action is protected in our constitution.

“They hate us for our freedom” is something I’ve found myself muttering a lot in response to current events.

it is just what it looks like. there’s no hidden complexity here. this was an innocent woman, murdered by a trigger-happy future family annihalator on ICE’s payroll.

My niece (who is 6) is already buying Valentine’s Day decorations and planning her outfit for Valentine’s Day, this is apparently very important to her, and therefore I support the stores doing this.

I didn’t realize that as a non American I don’t need to work to live. Man that’s crazy why am I going to work?

Priso jumping into centre back due to other defenders being injured and then just being awesome at it was one of my favourite stories of the season. Happy to see he got a call up for the national team.

In contrast, getting on and off the expo line in rush hour is fine and you are rarely physically trapped in a giant crowd.
January 6, 2026 at 4:54 AM
In the afternoon it’s not uncommon that I’ll miss a train because the stairway is clogged with people getting off a train coming the other way.
January 6, 2026 at 4:54 AM
The incredible frequency with which the escalators are not working does not help with how frustrating and slow the transfer is.
January 6, 2026 at 4:54 AM
This is for a bunch of reasons but mostly smaller trains (which is being fixed) and platform design choices. In particular transferring at commercial usually means standing in a big crowd waiting for the escalator or stairs for a bit.

As someone who rides the millennium line at rush hour pretty regularly this map is sort of shocking because it feels really crowded.
So structurally, what's wrong with the Millennium Line?

Here's a map, showing millions of annual boardings at stations. You can see the Canada Line in green, the Expo Line running diagonally southeast, and the Millennium Line running east west from VCC-Clark to Lafarge Lake-Douglas

IMO the best way to prevent this kind of a scenario is to actually enforce the law on far right and separatist groups and, if they are receiving foreign money, make that very public.
