My short debut in the Brussels bubble media.

I comment on the last edition of the Gender Equality Index. Don't believe we are "50 years from equality"; the increase of the index is driven mostly by women's increasing participation in power.
There is little or negative change in other areas.

Needed - larger samples, more realism about (the lack of) heterogeneous treatment effects:
-"less than a third of proposed hypotheses were supported... the largest predictor of positive exp. results was sample size"
-"moderation hypotheses were rarely significant"

Among many nice things at the EUI, you can make music with great people.

In the background of Alba Bosch explaining her fascinating research, we perform "Maig" by Eduard Toldrà. You can find the full recording here:

Since 2023, women get more habilitations in Poland than men. More details in my article for @forumakademickie.bsky.social ⬇️
👩‍🔬 W 2023 roku po raz pierwszy w historii polskiej nauki kobiety uzyskały minimalnie więcej habilitacji od mężczyzn. W ub.r. powtórzyły ten wynik. Odsetek pań wśród nowych profesorów tytularnych wzrósł do 43%.

Seksisme en politiek.
I identified 97 studies (including 84 after Trump was elected in 2016 and 42 on that election alone).
Most of the papers have been dedicated to the US. I hope the questions included in the recent @ess-survey.bsky.social will lead to many new studies on Europe.

As one reviewer said: “The appendix is a treasure trove of information.”
It has two parts:
1) An Excel table with a detailed description of all studies: concepts and survey items, research questions, results. I tried to make this database easy to search through and filter.

So useful!
Many studies attribute the success of right-wing parties to sexism.

What is sexism? How is it measured? How does it influence elections?

My systematic review of studies on sexism as a predictor of political behavior and attitudes is about to appear in @poqjournal.bsky.social!

Gender attitudes are likely more important than gender alone.
The literature confirms that hostile and modern sexism played a role in Trump’s election and probably the success of other radical/far-right parties.
