Rangzzzzz culture is/was a scourge it’s true.
You can't really put the toothpaste back in the bottle but I do think a lot of this is downstream of the widespread adoption of title or bust thinking. And it's not wrong, the whole point is to win. But teams historically didn't really operate like 5-8 seed with no chance to win was the worst.

To be clear, I think the current race to the bottom is at best unseemly, at worst actively dangerous to the league’s popularity. There does need to be some degree of reform, IMO, to deal with teams going to such extremes to be bad.

But abolishing the draft is the cure being worse than the disease.
@sethpartnow.bsky.social Thank you for fighting the good fight Re: the CRITICAL role of a draft that benefits the worst current teams.

The ever-growing tanking discourse makes me feel insane, if some prominent media people and League Pass hipsters didn’t obsess about it, the uproar would die down.

Are you suggesting that the small markets only…Aspire to be as attractive?

(Sorry not sorry.)
Pretty sure the non-basketball income you make from being a Knick is more than the Bucks could hope to pay.

No. Stop it.

Or do it and contract the league to the 12 teams that will consistently be competitive.
Get rid of the draft and rookie scale contracts. Levels the playing field

@sethpartnow.bsky.social @yourmandevine.bsky.social just curious of this approach to stopping using lottery chips. I thought it was pretty interesting idea in the thread and well thought out.
My first vote is for lottery chips. Start with 14, get two every year, tradeable assets, play however many you want for any given draft.

My second vote for anti-tanking is GM's have to rank the teams Assets worst to best and there's a lottery after that.

My third vote is for a modified Gold's Plan

I'm watching the jazz rebroadcast. Does a krejci (27) on the blazers have a Timberwolves tattoo on his shoulder?

I've been told that my post relating JJJ's diagnosis to Brandon Clarke's was wrong. @drniravpandya.bsky.social: "Synovitis is a blanket term to describe joint inflammation. PVNS is a condition due to an abnormal growth of the synovium which can lead to 'masses' in the knee."

If the Jazz were winning, this is clearly something he could've played through and addressed it in the offseason.

But he NEEDS the surgery at some point to remove the localized growth. Might as well do it now. This is night-and-day from just sitting out from nebulous 'soreness' like Trae Young.

The Utah Jazz. Playing without Jaren Jackson Jr. or Lauri Markkanen in this fourth quarter after they were tragically sucked into a wormhole in the fabric of space/time, and still taking a lead on the road in the final minute against the Miami Heat. Hearts of champions.

So I personally think tanking in the NBA is a problem, but the question is, what to do about it. And before anybody suggests it, getting rid of the draft in the NBA is a terrible idea.

Whatever the Jazz got fined last year for tanking was a minuscule pittance to pay for the long term prize of Ace Bailey
There’s no amount of fines that will dissuade Indiana, Washington, Brooklyn, Sacramento or Utah to not tank. Each of those teams could get fined $10M for tanking and they’ll make the money up the minute they draft Boozer, Dybantsa, or Peterson in jersey sales.

Underrated part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. trade:

It buys Utah cachet with Lauri and Keyonte to rest them in very stupid ways that are OBVIOUSLY antithetical to wins. Injury management is one thing, but resting Lauri in the 4Q of a close game requires player respect

Key and Lauri know the assignment

The degree to which we’re about to disrespect the league is going to go down in the history books. I could see us racking up like 2m in fines for how much we’re about to rest JJJ.
