3 The Division for Advancing Education Policy, Practice, and Leadership, Arizona State University In higher education, men of color (MoC) initiatives have gained prominence as programmatic interventions designed to support the persistence of MoC. Although a promising practice, scholars and practitioners have criticized MoC initiatives for reproducing narrow conceptualizations of who is most affected by gendered, racial, and culturally mediated systems. That is, these initiatives have been the subject of critiques that they frequently reproduce heterosexism and trans oppression, erasing the needs of queer and trans MoC. This practice brief addresses this issue by attending to how MoC programs can integrate queer and trans MoC, providing recommendations like adjusting facilitator recruitment and participant selection. How are we supposed to teach knowing there are students who deem us enemies because we believe in humanity and love?

How do we do our jobs while wondering which students think we (the enemies) should be felled (definition: to cut, knock, or bring down; kill)?
For the past 60 years, and especially in the past decade, our nation has come under invasion from the masses of the third world and those incompatible with Western civilization. Now, the current administration, as duly elected by its people to do so, has taken a stand against this invasion. Even in the light of fraud in Minnesota have radical, un-American, and treasonous few decided to side instead with the invaders, the enemies of the American people. They have disrupted and violently obstructed the lawful operations of the federal government. Traitors such as Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good had voided their liberties the moment they decided they were above the law and the popular opinion. It is, has, and always will be the mandate of our brave public servants, domestic and abroad, to fell the enemies of the United States of America. Illini Republicans-—-wholeheartedly and absolutely-stands with ICE, CBP, and may God bless all fighting for a better tomorrow.

Today was hard. So, rather than doing what I planned, I revised my syllabus so that it’s more like my love letter to teachers, education, and young people. It now has a table of contents and 7 extra pages, but every assignment and section is full of love and care.
I couldn’t fit it all in AltText, but here’s the beginning, and I’m willing to share the rest: Teaching is not neutral work. Every choice we make in a classroom reflects beliefs about whose knowledge matters and who belongs. What texts we teach, whose voices we center, how we respond to students, what we count as “good” writing or “real” reading. Many of those beliefs were handed to us before we knew we were receiving them. To become the kind of teacher who can genuinely serve all students, we have to excavate what we carry, examine where it came from, and imagine what else is possible. This course is an invitation to do that work. We will trace how we were socialized into particular beliefs about literacy, language, and learning. We will examine classrooms and communities with curious, critical eyes. We will sit with questions about equity, justice, and whose lives are reflected in our curricula. And we will imagine otherwise, dreaming toward futures where all students feel welcomed, valued, and seen as the intellectuals they already are. This is the first course in a three-course sequence designed to prepare you to teach secondary ELA across a range of high school settings. It is also a space to develop as a reflective, collaborative, justice-oriented practitioner, to question your role as an educator and reconsider what it means to participate in the adventure Bethune names: the ongoing, unfinished experiment of American democracy.
