FAMU can't use the word Black on anything posted around campus related to Black History Month, to stay in compliance with Florida state laws against DEI. Black students can't use the word Black at their Historically Black College during Black History Month.

How are we supposed to teach knowing there are students who deem us enemies because we believe in humanity and love?

How do we do our jobs while wondering which students think we (the enemies) should be felled (definition: to cut, knock, or bring down; kill)?

Today was hard. So, rather than doing what I planned, I revised my syllabus so that it’s more like my love letter to teachers, education, and young people. It now has a table of contents and 7 extra pages, but every assignment and section is full of love and care.
