I walk amongst the stones not to mourn, but to witness love that has nowhere to go but back to the earth.

I did not see the aurora unfortunately, but I did see a shooting star in London tonight. A win is a win.

#31daysofgraves day 31 Memento Mori. Sadly the headstones at Dunblane Cathedral graveyard, with memento mori, are now mostly worn away. These images are all from Dunblane Museum. Staff & volunteers there are helping with a new graveyard audio tour, hopefully out soon. 🤞 Cheeky wee plug! 😀

#31DaysOfGraves Day 31: Memento mori (Latin for "remember (that you have) to die"); symbols or tropes acting as a reminder of the inevitability of death. The most common motif is a skull, but other motifs include a coffin, hourglass or wilting flowers to signify the impermanence of life. #Edinburgh

The last day of #31DaysOfGraves 31: memento mori. These symbols seem to be very common here in Scotland. Here are just a few from Stirling and Northumberland.
Thanks so much for sharing all your pictures. I've really enjoyed seeing them. Thanks too to @annaandthedead.bsky.social for organising! 🎃👻🎃👻

#31DaysOfGraves - Day #30 Colour

The municipal cemetery in Landau-in-der-Pfalz is also home to the historical Jewish Cemetery. The oldest stones are made from the local red sandstone which, unfortunately, isn't the most durable material for a gravestone. But there's a quiet beauty to them...

#31DaysOfGraves - Occupation

Wife, widow, daughter, mother; women are often memorialised in terms of their relationships.

Most tragically as the wife and would-be mother, who perished in childbirth.

This example seen in St Edmund's Hall Library, housed in the C12th church of St Peter-in-the-East.

My friend has a family heirloom mourning locket, made of black Whitby jet. On the inside, is braided hair. A gorgeous art form which I seriously hope comes back into fashion one day.
