I don’t know about other states, but the problem in Louisiana is that the Democratic Party doesn’t even recruit candidates for most of the races, and as a result, people barely vote, and republicans win unopposed. The governor received fewer than 550,000 votes in a state with over 4.5 million people

this is correct
made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
