Good morning, new followers! I should probably introduce myself at some point. I post about books (both the content and the objects themselves), libraries, humanities, art, music, science, cooking, gardening, nature & pop culture. My interests are varied & passionate.

Also I’m very gay.

Rudy Bridges is younger than the Sitting President of the United States and 29 sitting United States Senators
It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

The reason the headline is "doom!" is because when you see what's already been done, you see that we can do more,
which means things can get better,
which means rich people's "it's over, no stopping this, might as well let us do what we want" manipulation might stop working. Can't have that.

Naurora for me. Either I'm too far south or there's clouds to the north. Nothing showed up on the time-elapse photo, either.

There are so many books I could choose for this prompt, but I'm gonna go with MOMO by Michael Ende. I read it in college not long after I'd turned 21. It completely upended the way I think about time, work/labor, relationships, and what makes life worth living.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Beetlejuice The Musical (The Musical) (The Musical) is good, actually.
A fun thing I never posted to Bisky before. This is a couple years old at this point, but a good while back I made these (unfinished) boards for the song Delia's Ted Talk from the demo album for Beetlejuice the Musical. I love this song & wanted to make something for it the second I heard it. (1/2)

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

What I love is when people talk about Lynch being abstruse or weird for its own sake or impenetrable when the fact of it, particularly in talks like this, he's really clear. He might use ambiguous symbols in his films, but this isn't.

Something to remember.
