After a loong and fragmented journey, I finally passed my PPL (private pilots licence) skills test yesterday. It took far more time than anticipated, and I wanted to give up so many times but was fortunate to find a supportive "village" to get me through, both in person and online. Thanks all!

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

An Australian study, conducted over four years and starting before the pandemic, has come up with some enlightening conclusions about the impact of working from home. The researchers are unequivocal: ...

Great that AI/ChatGPT can write essays and draw pictures etc (for the boring stuff), but what I'd particularly like to outsource are things like doing my skincare routine every night and flossing. It's all just endless. Maybe also a decluttering robot, thanks.

Love to learn about an AirTrain JFK outage from MTA instead of PANYNJ.

The Jamaica branch is offline Friday 11p-Monday11a, and again next weekend. Avoid it! Do not use the shuttle buses! Go to Howard Beach instead.

A remarkable story
In 1945, Soviet school children gifted a carving of the Great Seal of the USA to the American Ambassador, who hung it in his office at the US Embassy in Moscow. Seven years later, it was found to contain a concealed listening device.
