New sermon! New sermon! So new it is less than 24 hours old!

If you want to know what my first official sermon at the church where I just started as head of staff sounded like... This was it.

Backward Hope
Hope going forward, enough to shade out ‘hope’ that looks behind.

Sermon time!

If you've wondered what I have been up to (or what we've been up to at my silly little church), here's a sermon from October that I've managed to get typed up and posted.

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

TFW you spend most of a therapy session commisserating with your Cuban therapist

Because you're both having a similar experience of every f*cking cell in our bodies screaming with the fury of our ancestors to "GO, NOW"

As the expected Christian Nationalism EO came in, I’m seeing a bunch of “this isn’t real Christianity” noise in my mentions.

Nope.

Christian friends. 1/x 🧵

This is 💯 part of the history of Christianity, dating to Constantine, to the Holy Roman Empire, forced conversions, Inquisitions, +

Tfw your therapist opens the session with "Oh my God you'll be so proud of me I got a sourdough starter and I've been baking, and making things to go with it!!!"

For the most part, any photo taken in my city, I can tell you where it was taken and from which angle- just how my memory works.

This has led to a few awkward moments where I know where someone lives when they haven't told me.

Not even a trained skill. Someone who has trained it? Nu-uh.
I am one of those people who is *really, really good* at identifying exactly where and when a photo was taken from basic context clues (a skill I developed for human rights research and journalism purposes).

Trust me on this, don’t post photos of your kids on the public internet.
People can absolutely determine the exact location of an image by analyzing lighting, shadows, landmarks, or natural elements in the background. The amount of data needed to identify someone—or even their current location—is shockingly small. Any privacy book worth it's salt explains this.

I am mildly obsessed with this oyster shell 😅

It's so smooth! So pearly!
Rumi was so curious about the rocks and shells @gracefulgravity.bsky.social found!

After much looking, got myself a straw for the paints.

A prof at the seminary where I work asked a question and accidentally prompted the realization that I can paint over my non-water-based pens.

It has been magical ☺️

Wow I am tired

Ya girl made it to winter break, year two teaching in a rural title 1 public school.

This year my kids are obsessed with my binder clips, and keep putting them on the top of my laptop (and coffee cup... And posters... And notebooks... And...)

Anyway, it has been over a year of sunrises now.

For those who came from the Other Place, you might remember that I started taking a photo of the sunrise every morning, and sending it to a friend.

It was partly a way to know both of us were still here, existing

The public education system is not alright.

Y'all I've been sitting on a rant till I had certain blocks in place, but now that I do-

One of the things I have been reckoning with lately is how fucking ordinary and pious my abuser was. He was a "good man," friends with our pastor (who was also an abuser- 'holy' men hurt people too)...

My car developped a flat today.

If you are in a position where you have more than you need and would like to help with medical copays (running 300$+ for tbi), the cost of therapy, or apparently my car being a dipshit, my venmo is @ MlleCanary

Just a girl and her hot chocolate. Which she tried to sniff, sniffed too close, and got on her nose.

"I don't have enough salt for you." - a real thing said to me today by a real pharmacist. I have a cardiologist now and a heart monitor and I am dizzy and tired.
