I’m guessing GDPR is pointless then? 🤷🏻‍♂️

This looks interesting. Just joined the wait list 👍🏻
EU 🇪🇺 is reportedly preparing to launch “W,” a new social media platform positioned as a direct rival to X, with mandatory human verification for every account in an effort to eliminate bots and coordinated manipulation.

Fantastic, can’t wait to use it. 💯👏

The move is part of France's strategy to stop using foreign software vendors, especially those from the United States, and regain control over critical digital infrastructure.”

I wonder the UK stands on digital sovereignty? 🙄

My thoughts about Bridget Phillipson's recent statement that "mobile phones have no place in our schools, but AI learning tools are different." Looking forward to writing about the AI tutoring tool that they are trialling in schools in the summer.

“In the words of Jurassic Park scientist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) on re-creating dinosaurs, they ‘were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should’.
Similar to the question I keep coming back to, “Just because we can, does that mean we should?”
Never so much as went to the website. Never opened a tab - didn't know it had tabs. I have a brain and a conscience, so I don't need answer-shaped objects derived from stolen labour and data while destroying the planet and feeding a psychosis-radioactive waste machine.

Previously the industry standard had been simply to pirate vast "shadow libraries" of digitized books for free online. wapo.st/4rjXAMQ

When countries get hooked on US tech, their governments are constrained in reining in tech’s harms while most of the economic benefits accrue to the United States.

It’s time to break out of that trap — but that means challenging the Silicon Valley model, not creating our own digital colonizers.
