If you haven’t heard this album before then Black History Month would be a great time to crank it up for the first time.
Kept from the public eye for far too long and only released 17 years ago

Recorded in May 1975 and released in February 2009, ...For the Whole World to See, an album by the proto-punk/punk rock band Death.

Interesting report on the economic health of Chicago’s constellation of independent venues that’s also strangely agnostic towards LiveNation and Ticketmaster’s impact
Only 1 in 4 of Chicago’s indie music venues is profitable. Owners say that data spells potential trouble
Sold-out shows aren’t enough. Higher costs are undercutting business everywhere, owners say, from juggernauts like Metro to neighborhood venues like the Ramova.

Lou-natics unite! Here's a previously uncirculated gem from the fall of 1972 — Lou Reed + the Tots in London. Probably the best quality recording I've heard from this era ...

Hold Steady songs are all fun and games and the sweet nostalgic haze of young adulthood…until, that is, your own kid is old enough to start making his own bad decisions. Then it’s just terrifying. We survived, but how much of that was just dumb luck?

Something interesting I found – I’ve said before how I started writing “no children” on the envelope that holds an airplane ticket — this must’ve been from the same trip, probably the way back — where it says BOTTOM FEEDERS, another notebook shows that as the original working title for “Tallahassee”

Today, on the 125th anniversary of his birth, I'm reminded that Langston Hughes wrote what for me is the most compelling response to the false dichotomy of patriotism vs the brutality of our national history.
Let America Be America Again

This is how direct the lineage is, Muddy Waters learned guitar in Mississippi Juke Joints watching Son House & Robert Johnson. 20 plus years later he finds Buddy Guy, fresh off the train from LA & starving in Chicago. Buys him food, & gets him a gig.

Legend isn’t even enough.
So cool for 89-year-old blues legend Buddy Guy to be honored. Appearance in Sinners last year (and on the soundtrack). And just won Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album.

Also: definitely an important and strategic choice to give Best New Artist so much airtime. New stars are the lifeblood of the biz and the Grammys have a role to play in creating them.

I am told by @sterlewine.bsky.social that these are the Cure's FIRST Grammys ever, which is wild.
The Cure just won Grammys for "Alone" AND "Songs Of A Lost World" and aren't there because they are attending Perry Bamonte's funeral. :( But Jesse Welles read a lovely note from Robert Smith that (among other things) thanks the Cure's fans. 🖤

Wow, do you think this “unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look into Universal Music Group's vaults” will mention the time a UMG music vault burned down, destroying hundreds of thousands of master recordings, and the company covered it up?

we said all along that they wanted Gawker dead not because we embarrassed a pro wrestler but because the Epstein story is one Gawker was covering a decade before most other people caught up & was just one of many stories exposing powerful people and their misdeeds
Among the batch of newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein: Epstein telling Peter Thiel he would “gladly share…expenses for the Gawker suit.”

This was sent the day after @rmac.bsky.social and @mattdrange.bsky.social reported in Forbes that Thiel was behind the lawsuit that would bankrupt Gawker
