The Republican Party is gonna go down in infamy. Which is small comfort. But richly deserved.
This is true...but the institution relevant here is the Republican Party, which produced only a handful of votes for impeachment and removal - and then produced godawful Supreme Court decisions preventing prosecution and knocking out a Constitutional provision keeping him off of the ballot.
He's right, and it's not just Brazil.
Around the world, at least 31 democratic leaders who committed similar crimes have been jailed or banned from office since 2010. The failure to hold Trump accountable in the US was a unique and systemic failure of our institutions and political culture.
