Grumpy old man
Another magnificently named mushroom amongst our trees - Clitocybe fragrans, the Fragrant Funnel - which really does smell aniseedy up close.

Nice to hear I’m not the only one for whom every thing is an opportunity to bore the kids with interesting tree facts. This morning it will be Osage oranges and woolly mammoths over breakfast…
My almost 10-year-old son has a couple of friends over, and I just happened to have some Osage oranges that I collected yesterday—because I'm thinking of planting a tree—and so of course I had to grab the chance to teach the kids the delightful facts about Osage oranges and woolly mammoths:
The Trees That Miss The Mammoths - American Forests
Trees that once depended on animals like the wooly mammoth for survival have managed to adapt and survive in the modern world.

Whoa. Got up this morning for work and needed to turn on the lights. This is unacceptable; I am NOT ready for winter yet.

Hmmm...the UK recycled oil revenue into tax cuts from its North Sea oil, whilst Norway reinvested into the country. Norway's GDP per capita has grown faster, and is now 68% higher than the UK, and at $1.5trn, Norway has the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world.

Best gig I ever saw was the Banshees at Hammersmith Palais in 1983(ish). Got crushed at the front, passed out, lifted over everyone’s heads, dumped at the back, got my breath back and made it back to the front in time for the encore. They were magnificent.

Fascinating Ed Luce interview of Steve Bannon, which really explains where MAGA is going and why it is seen as so attractive to so many, and why the first 100 days of the Trump administration is seen as such a success by so many people.

Having lived in Moscow, I have no words…
NBC reports that, shockingly, during his latest Moscow pilgrimage Witkoff met with Putin and his two negotiators alone and without his own interpreter, relying - in breach of protocol - on a locally present one www.nbcnews.com/world/russia.... However, this seems half the problem (1/n)
Trump envoy relied on Kremlin interpreter in meetings with Putin to end war in Ukraine
Using the Kremlin’s interpreter was “a very bad idea” that put Witkoff “at a real disadvantage,” Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia, told NBC News.

The US already devotes more than 40 million acres to growing corn for ethanol fuel production.

If only ~1/3 of that land were converted to solar PV, it could generate enough electricity to cover the entire country's electricity needs.

Today, March 20th, is Rewilding Day. To celebrate, a couple of wild Irish Atlantic rainforest images.

Rewilding isn't just the means by which nature loss is reversed: it's how we can reconnect with the natural world, and each other.

But Ireland is way behind: let's catch up! 🌍
