I had read the end of this incredible piece many times but not the entire thing till now (insomnia)—just amazingly acute and prescient observation. See if you can spot Vance and Trump among the personalities Thompson describes
Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Charlie Kirk was a white supremacist who pushed the racist Great Replacement Theory. Kirk was vociferously anti-LGBTQ. Kirk's final words were to besmirch Black people.

Stop this revisionism. People who say bad things don't deserve to be murdered, but they also don't deserve to be praised either.

Cost of Trump's D.C. Occupation: $1.1M per day.

Cost to operate public housing for D.C.'s entire homeless population: $169,226 per day.

It's not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

Hoping @billcorbett.bsky.social might be able to do me a solid and get Kevin Murphy to say what the "Morton Thigh" reference was in Fugitive Alien.
He helped me once with cheese, and this is just like that.

You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. I mean, Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman and Slim Pickens are all dead, so the set would be horrifying and a lot of the jokes wouldn't land right.

It occurred to me today, to wonder, what percentage of guns are made from imported steel? What percentage of ammunition also relies on imported materials?

Look. Imagine you like brats and beer.

You brew beer.

Your neighbor likes beer but doesn't brew.

Your other neighbor raises pigs and makes brats, but doesn't drink.

So you sell beer to the first guy, and use the money to buy brats from the second guy.

Now you've got beer AND brats. Total win.

About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

A few thoughts on the last two days of The Daily Beans:
1. I was hoping Taint of the Week would be an award given to the person who best exemplifies a taint by being sensitive and thin-skinned while also serving no practical purpose.

I've told this story about my early education on fascism before but not on Bluesky.

I vividly recall doing a project in school about history. Maybe I wanted to do the Korean War because I was a big MASH fan. That I don't recall.

My physics teacher arranged for me to do a live interview... 🧵

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.
