Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

I'm not gonna lie, y'all: even nearly a decade into this, it still feels surreal that a sitting POTUS can do one long, bizarre stream-of-consciousness ramble about whatever silly shit happens to pop into his head on national television, and political media still shrug their shoulders + write it up.

I'm not kidding that any Dem who wants to run in 2028 should get out ahead of this and loudly say if El Salvador puts American citizens in Trump's gulag we'll fucking invade.

Trump rescinded Biden's Executive Order to lower prescription drug costs for Americans, which will be devastating for tens of millions of people.

We need to stay focused on issues like that—not on the shiny, offensive distractions like Elon's weird salute.

America’s allies should be deeply concerned about Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing. America’s enemies, meanwhile, are almost certainly laughing in amazement at their unexpected good fortune.

DO NOT CONGRATULATE
I'd second this, fwiw. Every expert analysis I've seen of how toxicity spreads on X notes that any engagement with the toxin, even as rebuttal, ridicule, pillory, is just a variant of amplification. Block the bad, share the good is what works.
Remember: Bluesky is not Xitter!

The goal is to build something better

One key thing to do is "block and don’t interact"

Don’t quote post dumb posts

Don’t reply to bad actors, trolls, reply guys, and extremists

Just block them

Life is too short to be wasted on idiocy and toxicity

When I saw Biden at a fundraiser early this month, he sounded tired and a bit feeble, particularly contrasted with Obama talking right next to him.

But the choice between enfeebled and a narcissistic sociopath surrounded by younger narcissistic sociopaths is not even a little difficult.
