yeah ill bang this drum as many times as i need to, everything produced by generative ai is a "hallucination." Accuracy is a coincidence
i’m very open to ChatGPT having some utility. but a few times for If Books Could Kill i’ve asked ChatGPT to aggregate existing sources of criticism for a book. what it produces are without fail almost entirely hallucinations. and not just one, i mean lists of 5-6 articles that do not exist.
i can see how you would come to this conclusion if your job didn't require you to ever be correct

Just finished the THORN Crawl rules layout, and I have the first region done.

They will both go up on the THORN page for anyone that owns the game. I will continue to update the almanac there until the entire world is built.

You get it all.

1 of 31 regions complete.

Why don’t more tabletop games include music custom made just for the game? Is it cost prohibitive? Do people not know who to reach out to about writing and recording it? I’d love to know your thoughts!

Got a chance today to work a bit more of the boss themes for the solo tabletop game I’m working on. Really starting to nail down the dark, deadly vibe I’m aiming for. #ttrpg #solorpg #tabletop #darksouls #shadowofthecolossus

Finally made a little progress on the art style for my game today. It’s a fantastical mecha boss rush, including a metal soundtrack and challenging combat like Dark Souls or Shadow of the Colossus. Playtestable version coming very soon. #ttrpg #tabletop #gamedesign #darksouls #shadowofthecolossus

RIP David Lynch. Seriously such an inspiration, someone who engaged with creativity on all levels and who made really interesting things. His presence will be continue to be felt for a long time to come.

Such an interesting and insightful read from one of the greats, Monte Cooke: open.substack.com/pub/montecoo... #tabletop #gamedesign #ttrpg
The Tipping Point
Every project—and I'm not exaggerating, EVERY project—that I have ever worked on and probably ever will work on has a sort of tipping point moment.

A series of games set in the same world, ranging from beginner friendly to maximum crunch. Like the setting and tone? Pick your poison. Feeling comfortable with the beginner option and looking to “level up” the challenge or complexity? Here’s a ladder.

A solo tabletop boss rush where you face two enemies in each combat: the terrifying boss and their equally deadly lair/environment. Each unique boss has their own map, formed and randomized with a deck of cards, similar to Carta. Lightens load on PC, heightens replayability.

When you make and release games, one thing you find is, people who won't ever play your game, and wouldn't enjoy it if they did, nevertheless have opinions about how it should be.

Their feedback might be useful if you're trying to reach outside of your game's established audience, sometimes —

What TTRPG’s use music to help set mood? Bonus points if it’s original music made for the game.

If there aren’t any/many, why do you think that is? More and more people are using sound at the table, and it’s a super strong, accessible way to set a tone, tension, and mood.

Finally got to pick up Risk of Rain 2 on sale this year, and found out the developer also made the music… I think it’s a sign to keep pushing forward with my own secret projects. So cool to see people blending different mediums.

I need to be saying this every morning in front of the mirror. Combatting your own perfectionism is a constant effort.
Today's spicy 🌶️ #ttrpg take is that Perfect is the enemy of Good enough.

New games often die in layout & editing, because those bits suck. Don't fall into this trap, post your janky pdf & see how people react

It's the only way to discover which of your ideas are worth dragging over the finish line

I'm actually super proud of NEST, and think it's a sleeper hit of my catalog
10. Nest by @gilarpgs.bsky.social takes a design approach to campaigns I don’t think I’ve seen elsewhere, tight, focused and incredibly finite. The game and its campaign are one, it’s a game with a purpose, one it will fulfill, then you can move on to the billion other games out there.

A game called Resist the Urge where you’re a cat making your way through your day, containing your rage and refraining from murdering your human as they continue to make mistakes / annoy you.

If you make it to the end of the day, you roll for a cute interaction with your human.

Super fortunate that the very first group I found to play with is:

a) filled with genuinely nice people
b) trying a bunch of new and indie games
c) who want to GM, and who are invested when they’re players as well.

From what I understand, that’s not everyone’s first experience…
