This is why nothing works. Over-confident bidders win contracts by underestimating time and resources so everything is built, and then maintained, on the edge of failure. Roll in an over-confidence that the person speccing the contract will move on to bigger projects, and things are even worse.

I've almost always been a voice against over-confidence and that doesn't win friends nor help you to succeed in workplaces. It does promote empathy though and, I think, makes you a better person.
