Check out outlawvern.com, where in one week I reviewed

1. an obscure 2023 black and white indie dramedy
2. a documentary about THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE
3. Jafar Panahi's recent Palme d'or winner
4. a broad 2012 comedy with a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes but I liked it

Trump is a disgrace. Not only were his comments about Rob Reiner's death extremely insensitive, they highlight his narcissism that foreign leaders know to exploit. Just flatter him & offer a business deal & you get what you want from the US. Trump is a danger to our democracy.

my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

I have just now completed my Halloween essay, which is about NIGHTBREED. It was just about the coolest thing I'd seen when I was 14, its flaws are more evident now, but so are its various meanings. It has dozens of cool monsters, it's pro-freak, anti-fascist, and full of imagination. I love it.
Nightbreed (special Halloween revisit) | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
There was a time when I was 14 years old and Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED was my favorite movie. Maybe that was too soon to move on from BATMAN, or maybe they

In 2018 I was going through some stuff and I wrote a very personal essay interpreting what was then the entire HALLOWEEN franchise. I think it's pretty good so check it out some time.

I had fun with the high concept thriller LOCKED where Bill Skarsgård gets locked in a car. I believe it has been called "SAW in a car," but in my review I talk more about its similarities to DIE HARD.
Locked | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
Remember the 2013 movie LOCKE starring Tom Hardy? It’s not a thriller, it’s a drama, but the gimmick is that the whole thing is Hardy driving to a hospital

Rep. Robert Garcia: "We should not be scared of what's in those files. We don't care who you are, how powerful you are, if you're in politics, what party you are, the amount of money you have — if you've committed these horrific crimes, it should be out to the American public."

WHY IS TRUMP THE PRESIDENT WHEN IT IS SO CLEAR HE'S AN EVIL, THICK ARSEHOLE?
Like, if this was a movie, he'd so obviously be the bad guy?
Why is this evil prick allowed to do anything at all, never mind run a country?

The MAGA cult keeps denying reality, excusing a sexual predator and adjudicated r*pist like it’s sport. Some of the most depraved defenses come from women.

This is why we must keep hammering the Epstein coverup—because truth dies when lies are left unchallenged.

Keep the pressure on.

The fact that the President of the United States posts a fake video of a kneeling Barack Obama being handcuffed and we’re supposed to pretend it’s perfectly normal, everyday stuff shows exactly what is terribly wrong with today’s political mainstream media.

I took my time writing about 28 YEARS LATER, but it has stuck with me. An odd movie, but impressive in its style and in how much it wasn't what I expected. (Highly spoilerful review.)

I really liked Sean Byrne's DANGEROUS ANIMALS, which is not so much a shark movie as a slasher movie where the slasher's favorite weapon is sharks. Also kind of a romance? But mostly it's proof that Jai Courtney was meant to play weirdos.
Dangerous Animals | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
Somehow the Australian director Sean Byrne only has three movies. There was THE LOVED ONES (2009) and THE DEVIL’S CANDY (2015) and now a whole ten years later
