Apparently this company has been in business for 100 years. I’m guessing that’s because it takes them that long to get rid of your pests using whatever that guy is holding.

This is a fantastic point -- I think it better describes why I'm emphatically opposed to LLMs replacing front line government staff. The problems you could run into at a field office for almost any service can get *weird* and it's super easy for an LLM to mess it up. #civictech
i feel compelled to remind everyone that chatgpt/LLMs are functionally the *opposite* of an actual expert.

the more your problems are unusual or novel, the more likely LLMS are to be wrong. they are least helpful when it's most important

Rice University’s Leadership in Carbon Nanomaterials for Climate Technology: My Owl Have You Know Podcast
I had a surreal experience this week. For nearly half my life, I've been running along the Rice Outer Loop—the crushed gravel trail shaded by 100-year-old live oaks circling the perimeter of campus—with podcasts streaming through my earbuds. But this time was different: I was listening to MYSELF on Rice University's "Beyond The Hedges" podcast while retracing those familiar steps.

As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

It’s not California and it’s not Florida - it’s Texas.

As this article explains, the only state subject to more wildfires than Texas is California. Texas even leads California in acreage burned.
