This is sad. My husband and I met in AmeriCorps. We also made nearly nothing and they’d significantly gutted the program since (no in person training for VISTA anymore for instance)
My bff’s son works for Americorps and received a decommissioning letter today. DOGE is gutting the program. I’m so angry and disappointed DOGE would go after a program that does such good work. @marisakabas.bsky.social @kairyssdal.bsky.social @katiephang.bsky.social

I served in AmeriCorps twice, and the experience was terrific and important to me. Plus the work we did directly helped local people who lived in walking distance of our office. This is a great American program, so of course America haters defund it.

Yes, the Americorps volunteers here at our local wildlife refuge were also let go today--told they had to pack up and leave tonight. They were going to be building a retaining wall. It won't get built now, and they won't get an $8,000 scholarship towards their education. A travesty.
