I'd really date it becoming a nonsense factory in 2006, when they moved out of Boston, laid off most of their staff, and hired James Bennet, Jeffery Goldberg, and Andrew Sullivan. the infamous Singal article wasn't until 2018
It's hilarious how quickly The Atlantic's content turned to 100% nonsense after they decided to sidle up with Singal and co.

Like if i really believed in one specific version of God i would probably be an evangelical too. but US culture kinda brushes past the fact that evangelicalism by definition is antithetical to any kind of tolerance for other religious views, that's the whole deal
Folks, you can’t have Christian Nationalism without the antisemitism. It’s a central tenet of the ideology. The fact some of these Jewish Heritage folks are just realizing this is wild to me.
