VO is obviously close to home for me, but the same applies everywhere. Let people do what they’re good at. That’s what they’re there for. What is the point of encouraging people to study and practice and get awesome at things if the first thing we do is look for ways to not need them?
1000% this, but also (and it’s preaching to the choir here) it can’t be overstated how much voice actors can add to the material.
IMO the funniest line in any of the Sam & Max games is only really funny because Kid Beyond nailed the delivery.

Beyond the ethical and quality concerns, why would you want to cut voice actors out of your process? They’re the hot people with media training and a camera presence. You need a Laura Bailey or Neil Newbon out there to do panels or it’s just a bunch of sweaty devs in t shirts and blazers

I would NEVER DM you first asking if you'd want a commission! No reputable artist would message you first!!

I think part of the issue is that these types expect these games to come from multimillion dollar studios (LucasArts, Sierra/Yosemite) and are blind to the plethora of small dev houses who make incredible products without all that overhead.
Been seeing an interesting thing on social media with both fighting games and adventure games, where people who haven’t played them since the 90s will say “I wish they still made X genre” or “there aren’t any indie games in X genre”, when they’re more active than they’ve ever been
