When the Trump administration gets overthrown they should take Elon Musk and pull an Emperor Puyi reeducation on him, make him the biggest socialist believer of all time. That would be the funniest outcome

Yup. This was literally me. Funded by Nautilus Minerals to do baseline environmental impact assessment for a hydrothermal vent mine. Went in cautiously optimistic. Came out concluding there's no feasible path forward for mining a hydrothermal vent at any scale.
It's wild that all my colleagues who are funded by a deep sea mining company to research the topic ultimately conclude that we shouldn't mine the deep sea.

We should stop seeing the ocean as a place to exploit instead of a place of wonder and beauty and an essential part of our life support system.
Trump Takes a Major Step Toward Seabed Mining in International Waters (Gift Article)
A new executive order pits the United States against the rest of the world over the question of who can exploit mineral resources in shared waters.

The current attacks on the environment and the sciences should encourage everyone in the fields to look into supporting and/or joining groups like @scientistrebellion.bsky.social . It is so immensely important for people in STEM fields to make their voices heard on this

Unbelievably grim sign to see NOAA posting this promotion of manganese nodule mining. WE KNOW what the harvesting of the nodules does to the sea floor and its surrounding sea life, and this conversation should’ve been dead on arrival. This is going to be a rough four years.

These minerals are currently sitting atop the sea floor, waiting to be scooped up and processed. Through #NOAA’s mapping tech and licensing abilities, we are helping industry leaders find, collect and bring back these minerals to benefit the #USA & domestic manufacturing.

An idea I had- Alvin and the Chipmunks are running away from a dog and just barely make it into a tree to escape. Panting, Alvin says “wow, I can’t believe we…squeaked that one out!” And then winks at the camera.

Has anyone thought of this yet? Could be something

While driving today I saw someone not use their blinker when in a lane with multiple turning options, and then use their blinker in a lane that can only turn one way. Nothing means anything anymore

When did the term “simulator” overtake the term “clicker” for games of that sort? An interesting thought
