Ivor Cummins is a keto huckster turned COVID denier whose devotees include an Antrim councillor who died of COVID after falling for his crap and it is pretty disgusting to see him as a welcomed guest at Leinster House

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Will bribe cllrs to reduce the speed limit outside my house to 30km. Call me.
Now that the government has abandoned a plan to make city speed limits 30km/h by default, the Dublin City Council is returning to the slog of doing it bit by bit. At a meeting Wednesday, councillors and council managers expressed frustration with the long road ahead.

Judicial reviews are very often the last resort local communities have in defending nature against greedy corporate interests + rotten planning.

The gov. wants to undermine that via false blame for the housing crisis, etc.

Judicial reviews serve the common good
Rather than castigating public-spirited ordinary people concerned by planning problems, the Government should focus on properly resourcing the planning and legal systems

1. Scandi social democracy, with rapid diversity, has found integration hard. Similar ethnic diversity to UK. Faster. Less success on integration outcomes in identity, education. No tradition action on race equality. So doing more on integration

And our governments followed the Thatcherite model of selling off council homes… without replacing the homes sold off.
Right to Buy might have secured homes for a generation who purchased them but “many of these homes were not replaced with fresh council housing stock, leading to a lack in provision of socially rented properties. And yet today, more than 40% of the homes sold under the scheme are privately rented.”

"Upgrading" a cycle path should NOT mean endangering cyclists.

Where are we supposed to go here, Dublin City Council?
Into oncoming traffic? Onto the footpath?

If you’re redoing a cycle path, you must provide a safe alternative while the work’s underway.

This is bad even by your standards.

What’s known as the ‘urinary leash’ impacts marginalised communities the most. The lives of women, pregnant people, disabled people, the elderly, trans people and others can be majorly restricted based on the availability of public facilities.
