This might be my worst post-conference crashout ever.

Anyone else struggling with different parts of life right now, my heart is with you.

We gotta believe things will workout and things will get better. 🤍

I have been critical of ACS a number of times for some of their poor leadership decisions and this time I want to recognize and praise their efforts to support graduate students here.

This is an example of what good scientific leadership and community looks like.

Thank you, @acs.org 🙏🏽

I hope colleagues and friends attending #ACSFall2025 are having a good conference so far.

It is refreshing and inspiring to learn about so many science projects and efforts happening despite many hardships right now. 💙

There is something poetic that my final year of graduate school was in DC, with protests, with a certain political admin, and with the national guard / military presence* and now I get to go back there under the same conditions, if not worse, to share my scientific work.

It’s only problematic through a capitalist lens -- to people who mistake community for a growth metric rather than a space for actual conversation.
Bluesky has a growth problem

Bluesky has hit 38M monthly users, up 8M since March

Once adding 5M users per month, it’s now slowed to 1.6M. A 60% drop

But post volume is falling—more users, less activity

It risks becoming a ghost town with a loyal but shrinking core

friends, this is (to me) a bit of an embarrassing request, but I am going to ask anyway:

1. do you have a favoriate online class (however defined) about statistics?
2. do you have a favorite basic (like 101-level) text on statistics?

thank you!

Greetings & I am grateful to share another PhD birthday.

I am grateful for the knowledge and opportunities I have had and I hope I can give forward to others.

I look forward to future adventures with more growth, discovery, community, care, and curiosity.🧪💙

Making figures & writing up some of the data from the #InvisibleWorkSTEM research has been full of contrasts - I feel hope & inspiration from some of the experiences ppl have reported but I also feel hopelessness & anger for so much crap ppl have gone through (wrt invisible work).

For safety reasons, office desks (ppl's personal belongings + meals) I think should be outside of the lab space. But having 1-2 desks in the lab can be inclusive for ppl who may need to sit to finish up taking notes in their lab notebook or have a place to sit while pipetting, etc.

#chemsky
Dear #chemsky, please share your thoughts on the issue of placing desks/office spaces inside of chemistry research laboratories. Is it Ok? Not Ok?

Anyway all kinds of thoughts but the main one is the filmmakers didn’t make up the idea that to be a successful scientist you have to be a lab hermit without a family, and the fact that that’s changing doesn’t really make the film less wrenching
