First day of the year and I chose to learn and play Salt&Pepper Onoda.
It did not end well (Onoda did not withstand the pressure and killed himself…I could have saved him by playing the right card). There is more than it meets the eye and I really enjoyed the immersion.

If players touch the pieces too much in a game, it'll often feel fiddly.

It'll also add cognitive burden: using our hands requires surprising brain power (I was once a neurobiologist).

Protip: count touches-per-turn in tests

Hubris can really deliver some awesome narrative and twists of fate: in my current solo test game of the prequel expansion, the 4th turn (235-231) was just spectacular!
First, Seleukos II suffered a crushing defeat despite enjoying numerical superiority against his rebel brother Antiochos Hierax.

Onoda was an experiment in storytelling. A sad story, by the way. Probably more linked to a rpg than a standard solitaire game. Not a puzzle, not a resource management game, but more akin to a comic book plus a game. I am proud of the job done when somebody, as Dan, reports this kind of experience!
