Oh hey, I've got a couple. These are preventative rather than after-the-fact but hopefully still helpful? ;w;

#1.) Talk about your work with your friends and peers early and often in the process. Show what you're working on to someone you trust to be kind but honest with you. Before I did this--
Creative friends! One of the most challenging things about our work is managing when something we’re proud of or worked hard on isn’t well received and is picked apart. How do you deal with unfavorable critique and feedback?

--I'd get really lost in my own head and then be surprised when no one 'got' my finished product. Sharing sketches or even starting ideas with your friends and other artists/art director can help illuminate your blind spots, catch problems early, and get a sense of what to expect from your audience.

#2.) Be on to the next thing before posting to social media /publishing / etc. A little bit of time after you finish something helps you see it from a better perspective, and it translates to some emotional distance, too. --

-- Having the piece more firmly in 'the past' can make negative feedback feel less like an attack in 'the present.' Plus, even if they didn't like what you were working on before, now you're focused on something new that's cooler and better! -And- you're too busy with the new project to dwell on it.

If you are a worker at a place where ice is staying or patronizing, think of creative ways you can gum up the works:

Take forever to wait on them or bring them their check. Waste every second of their time you can! Make them repeat themselves again because you “didn’t catch that”

Sand in the gears
Every extra hour that ICE spends facing off with activists is an hour they can't spend kidnapping other people.

Every extra minute ICE has to spend contingency planning around activists and neighbors, every extra officer ICE has to put on a kidnap squad, is a drain on their efficiency.

Still looking for a suitor for this lovely girl
Never bred my mantises before, but Princess is a very special bug with a fantastic personality. She's also v healthy for her age and has now laid 3 infertile ooths.

Guess I'm in the market for an adult/sub adult male Deroplatys Desiccata, if anyone knows someone else keeping this species (USA). 👀

Happy New Year all. 2025 was another really hard one for me. The last couple years have been just... heartbreaking and hard.

2026 will still be challenging, but yenno what?

We don't have to do 2025 again. That one's over. All done. The next steps might be difficult, but we're still moving forward.

This year has been a real shift for me in many ways. I finally, fully gave up on the career I spent so much of my life pursuing (working in the industry). & decided to, in extreme financial uncertainty focus entirely on my convention work. Its been hard, tiering, stressful but extremely rewarding!

My little collection of mantis pins, getting an inspection from my girl Princess. I can't really afford to collect enamels but I decided to make a single exception: Mantises!
