To my new followers:
Thank you, first of all. A few things. I make black metal under the name Fathomless. Absolutely NO right wing/fascist shit, trans/homophobia, or AI.

Fathomless is functionally a one-man band, but I roped in some very talented friends to do session work for the recording
I resisted getting FabFilter Pro-Q 4 for a long time because I couldn't justify $200 for one EQ plug-in. I caved, and it's awesome. I don't know how I functioned this long without being able to solo the frequencies being cut/boosted and the list view that shows "collision frequencies"

Goddammit. My favorite Mexican restaurant closed and was replaced with a Tex-Mex restaurant.

I'm stealing @allieinchains.bsky.social top 10 "best," "favorite," and "influenced my playing the most" lists idea, but for bassists instead of guitarists.

I rarely think there is a distinction between 'favorite' and 'best' in most categories but guitarists is one of those things where I can rank things by who I think is the 'best' who is 'my favorite' (as a listener) and who influenced me most (as a guitarist myself)

Lists for all 3 in my comments
Who are your top 10 all-time favorite guitarists? No particular order except the top 3. Apologies to the many I've missed, completely off the top of my head.

Seiji Kakuzaki
Muhammed Suiçmez
Phil Tougas
Ichiro Agata
Austin Mayan
Malcolm Pugh
Byron Leon
Eetu Hernesmaa
April Hutchins
Noyan Tokgozoglu

I've spent my entire day on the couch, nursing a hangover, and watching Deep Space Nine. If you've never seen it, here's my favorite description:

Our halftime entertainment is the "Everybody Dance Now" people. I've never seen this level of phoning in a performance before. Though I do appreciate that they went with the Jalen Williams/Jaylin Williams jersey combo.

Thundering up on new year's eve. Here's hoping we can get out of downtown before it gets too crazy

Every time I see a list like this I'm reminded of the greatest "so bad it's good" music video I've ever seen:

Every time I play guitar after playing my Dingwall the guitar seems so tiny. 25.5" scale length feels like a ukulele compared to the 37" scale of the Dingwall low B string. And the guitar strings feel about the same gauge as a human hair.

I'm bored, so I started writing some death metal riffs. Enjoy?

I'm still available for recording and/or reamping projects. Someone give me something to do before I fuck around and accidentally write a death metal album.

You ever come back to a song you wrote years ago and think "why the fuck did I do this to myself?" I'm working up some of the unfinished songs from my previous band. The singer and I are going to finish them in 2026 for the 10yr anniversary of the 1st EP and 2yr anniversary of our drummers death

Some Monday morning fretless jams.

DMs are open if anyone needs some bass recorded.

I opened up the project files from this EP this morning and literally laughed out loud at the EQ settings. It was a hilarious example of how far my mixing skills have progressed. July will mark 10 years since this was released, and I think it deserves a re-mix/remaster
We only released one EP and a posthumous single. The drummer sadly passed away, so no new material will be made but someday I'll finish up the full length we started.

Anyone need some bass recorded? All my projects are in a holding pattern at the moment, and I need something to do in the interim. Any genre/style.

If you or someone you know needs some bass laid down, DM me or email fathomlessmetal@gmail.com

Besides black metal in general, I'd have to go with Zappa, Primus, and Mr. Bungle. Throw Igorrr in there too. I respect and admire artists that fully embrace their weirdness. Commercial viability be damned.

I HATED this video (and the lead singer of the band) but I really liked the songs, and playing with Jon Reid (who is now lead guitars in Fathomless.) This band is the one I spent the most time on the road with, and I wish we'd pulled a Vitriol and left our singer stranded

More nostalgia from 15 years ago. Our "manager" discovered that Night of the Living Dead was in the public domain, so we used footage from it in our first music video. No one realized at the time of shooting that gore makeup doesn't really translate to B&W. Live and learn.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic today and revisiting some stuff from my old band, Fictional Maladies. I was fed up with guitarists after dealing with some flakes and dickheads in other bands I worked with, so I started a weirdo funk metal band with no guitars.

I'm absolutely devastated this morning. We had to say goodbye to my beloved dog, Leela. She was the most loyal, gentle, sweet, smart, and spoiled dog ever. For the last 14 years she's rarely been more than 10 feet away from me at any time. Rest easy sweet girl.

How in the fuck is it going to be nearly 80° F/26° C on Christmas day? I'm having to do a load of laundry so that I can wear shorts. I'm not Australian, I don't know how to deal with a hot Christmas.

Now it is officially Christmas in my household. A bottle of champagne has been consumed, and Hans Gruber has fallen off Nakatomi Plaza. Whatever holiday you celebrate in December, have a great one

The drum sessions I engineered for Dischordia got the thumbs up from Colin Marston. It feels good to get that validation from someone with his experience, especially because I was brought in to re-record the drums after the first guy messed them up so badly they had to be completely redone.
