Speaking of which, I was addressing a conclave of editors the other day and was asked what I thought of "themself" as a singular reflexive pronoun, and I said "As a copy editor I'm not supposed to put my thumb on the language scale, but we all need to make 'themself' happen." So let's do that.
I'll assume that the person who asked me to do them a massive favor and could barely bring themself to say thank you once I'd done it—and done it quite well, I might add—will one day soon ask for another massive favor, and that's when the fun will begin.
