Today is the 50th anniversary of a CIA orchestrated coup against a democratically elected Australian government. That’s exactly what it was, Washington acting to contain a left social democratic government that was starting to threaten vital US intelligence based on Australia soil. Never forget.

Rewatching this for a thing reminds that when I was younger I would ALWAYS watch a Bond film if it turned up on tv, regularly rocking up for school bleary eyed.* Then I bought them on DVD in the early 00s, watched the discs once, and have never watched the films again.
At the beginning of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, Moneypenny asks Bond to propose to her, which is a bit rum given that his wife was only just murdered at the end of the previous film.

I'm really looking forward to Parliament being recalled over the festive season so Timpsom and Lammy can explain why Rose West has been let out for Christmas by an AI Chatbot.

Why not just put your own headphones in then you don’t have to hear anyone else’s aberrant noise?
If you're traveling by train, buy some fucking headphones. I don't want to listen to your shitty music, hear a crappy American comedy, or listen to a conversation with your significant other who's a bigger twat than you.

Splurged on that Criterion Wes Anderson box set and it’s nowhere near as fancy as I thought, can’t believe I paid $400 for this.

The thing is that I (50) have seen Incubus live after accompanying my (millennial) younger sister when her friend dropped out, and I also could not name a single song or hum a tune. It was like funk-metal Muzak. People were singing and dancing and I couldn’t understand what they were doing it to.
What is your biggest musical blindspot for someone precisely your age?

For me - an elder millennial - it is that I have never knowingly listened to INCUBUS, nor could I name even one of their songs if you put a gun to my head.

Ok #respect fans, a request. In the spirit of "mascotsilence" on the other place, if you're at the football (or any other sport for that matter) and see mascots doing the two minute silence, do grab a picture and send it across... Fine example of the genre:

With the proviso that Amazon are evil and we shouldn’t use them, it’s incredible how they have managed to totally enshittify their search function with AI, which now fails to find items even when you put in the exact title. It’s often easier to link from an external search engine.

I'm a big fan of bizarrely coloured hand-tinted production stills. What am I on about? Well here is a b&w production still from THE YOUNG ONES, followed by the hand-tinted dayglo version, then the actual colours as they appear in the film.

Hate it when someone finds themselves between, say, two people called Greg, and they describe it as a "Greg sandwich". If you're in the middle then it's a YOU sandwich, on Greg bread. You idiot. You fucking moron.

When stuff like this happens, someone should look into the camera and go ‘Merry Christmas, Adam Curtis’ like how BBC presenters said ‘Merry Christmas, VT’ when they fluffed because they knew it would end up on the next Christmas tape.

Remember that this is why the capitalist class hates renewable energy - the end result is that it will be free.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative
